June 19th - June 25th, 2009
After a remarkable 6-week stint at #1 that saw them fend off formidable challenges from Silversun Pickups and Green Day,
Metric finally slide from #1 but remarkably maintain a bullet. Who could have possibly thwarted them then? It was the transformin' rockers,
Linkin Park who skyrocket from #12-1 with
New Divide. The move is the largest jump to #1 since 2001, when Britney Spears made the same leap with
I'm A Slave 4 U. Coincidentally enough, she ended the 2-week #1 reign of
In The End by Linkin Park the week she made that jump. The top 5 is full of movement this week, as
The Killers and
Dave Matthews Band both fall out, and
Kelly Clarkson slides to #5. This is only the fourth single from The Killers to not hit #1, following
Somebody Told Me (#3),
For Reasons Unknown (#11), and
Tranquilize (#3). It's not too often that Kelly Clarkson misses #1 either, this being only her third time she's missed out,
The Trouble With Love Is (#15) and
Before Your Love (#7) being the only exceptions. And what else?
Katy Perry soars 3 spots to #4, scoring her third top 5 hit off her debut album, "One of the Boys";
I Kissed A Girl (#1[4]),
Hot 'N Cold (#3).
Cobra Starship are on the brink of a top 5 implosion as they jump to #6 with a camp pop-rock track that puts similarly seasoned 3OH!3 to shame. Having Leighton Meester lend an arousing vocal cameo doesn't hurt either. The greatest gainer this week is
Green Day with
21 Guns, who are looking for redemption as it looks like
Know Your Enemy will have to settle for a #2 peak.
This week, we have three debuts to add some chart movement in the lower rungs of the chart as the upper portion begins to see some shuffling. First up is current Billboard Dance Chart #1
When Love Takes Over from
David Guetta f/ Kelly Rowland. I've always liked Guetta, even though none of this tracks have charted in the past, although
The World Is Mine and
Love Is Gone definitely should have.
Beyonce was looking sh*t out of luck to score any more debuts for tracks off "I Am...Sasha Fierce", but a remix of the track
Ego with Kanye West has changed all that as she is looking to score her first top 5 off the album after the three previous singles all missed;
If I Were A Boy (#8),
Single Ladies (#6),
Halo (#11). And last but not least it's the newest from
Kid Cudi with friends Kanye West and Common and a killer Lady GaGa sample in
Make Her Say.
Day N Nite only peaked at #18, but saw some remarkable longevity before falling off and should fare well on the 2009 year-end chart. So we'll see how well this does.
