You're right about the fact that she knows nothing of the struggles of gay people.

But in a way she did kind of both good and bad regarding the whole love yourself situation. All the feminine gays worshipped her (and still do) to heaven and back so I guess they sort of benefited from the situation, but it made the world think that every gay person is like that.
