They closed the Madonna Can't Sing thread before I could post this.

Of course she can. It would be a pretty bad indictment on your faves if a woman who has claimed the title of Queen of Pop supposedly can't sing. :rotfl:
She isn't a vocal powerhouse but has a beautiful distinct voice that fits pop perfectly.
If she couldnt sing we wouldnt be talking about her 30 years after her debut like we are now.
she's not known for her voice though. Seriously, there's no need to defend her. She's famous for other reasons: her creativity, imagery, originality, and being the most successful product of the MTV generation.

There's a rule on atrl that ppl that dont like a certain artist cant post on their base, you are risking WPs
She obviously has a pleasant voice and when she wants she proves her vocal range (Evita, Ray of Light, etc.)

lol she was famous for her innocently joyful voice that make people feel cheery , name me another singer in 80s that has that voice
Madonna obviously can't sing like Whitney, Mariah, etc., but if you're stanning for Madonna, it's obvious you're clearly stanning for more than just vocals. If anything I'm relieved, as a Madonna fan, that I don't have to spend time talking in circles about nonsense words like "coloratura," "vocal breadth," "lushness," and all of that other voice-lesson krap.
Madonna's supposed "lack" of more "traditional" talents sets her apart imo, and it's always what I've sort of liked about her. I know that sounds positively retarded on the surface, but consider this- she's not an amazing vocalist, she didn't fit typical beauty standards, and she was basically a loud, boisterous, outspoken bitch, yet she still managed to come out on top vs. other "traditionally" talented peers like Whitney, Mariah, etc. I think it's really cool that she managed to conquer an entire pop-landscape with only her raw attitude, bitchiness, drive, hard-work, elbow grease, and an unbreakable spirit. Slant Magazine's review of MDNA put it best:

But unlike Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, Madonna wasn’t thrust into the spotlight by way of an enterprising family or the kind of prodigious talent that, with or without its owner’s consent, begs to be hoisted up and exalted by the masses. That Madonna was forced to compensate for her perceived lack of natural “talent” with, in addition to unbridled creativity, supreme self-control and focus is probably what’s helped keep her from succumbing to the demons that have plagued many of her contemporaries.
