I think the alternative trend might be slowing down a bit. It's not quite as prevalent - however, it's still a huge thing right now.
I'm specifically thinking of LHG & Story of My Life (1D's music is def primarily pop, but no doubt they were inspired by alt acts like Mumford & Phillips for new album).
Xo is so boring... whenever she's consciously trying to make a hit, it usually fails. same thing happened with BTINH which she thought would smash All her biggest hits have had something very distinctive or characteristic about them. XO is not like that
and this is why I hope Peroxide Hurts is not a single and Partition and Mine are.
um lol Metallica have several classics. I don't think it's possible growing up a white male and not hearing a metallica song or take part in a discussion abt them at some point. Pretty much every guy I know loves that band. I love them too

XO would've been huge with Rihanna's vocals. It's so hard to create a hit for someone with such a GP repelling voice. The hook needs to be mostly production (CIL), or she needs other voices on the track (Telephone, Beautiful Liar, Destiny's Child), or JT has to wear a leotard so it can go viral (Single Ladies).
