It's currently #24, right? Am I reading that right? TIHWD, its impact, never dies.

I don't think that a VMAs performance would help this song because VMAs is associated with a different sound. On the other hand, she cannot perform her lead single there because it's too soon.
_______
why radio updates are so hot n cold?

If she performs it at the VMAs, she has to perform it. She can't just stand there and sing it kinda poorly like the DNC. It has to be an iconic pop culture moment. Idk if she can do that tho.

She should definitely sing this at the VMAs with a spectacular performance (maybe use some background effects and interact with them à la Russia @ Eurovision, the Americans would live).

The best I can imagine for Rise is something theatrical like an intro where she's descending from the ceiling in a pink parachute looking just like the music video while a dark instrumental plays. and then she starts singing and then she'll walk around on stage with her parachute on doing something like Walking on Air fighting against the wind current while kind of reenacting the music video (expressions and all that).

I kinda want something completely different, like how Dark Horse at the Grammys was nothing like the video.

I'm so confused by this NBC deal. I've been watching the Olympics on NBC everyday and I don't think I've heard this song once. What's the point of having a NBC deal if you're not even going to play the song? Smh, they just costed Katy her first official FLOP. If I was Katy, I would sue.

Performance concept:
Katy stands in the middle of the stage with her head down, behind the microphone, ready to perform, but nothing happens. She looks around awkwardly and smiles and then says, "Any time," into the mic, and the audience nervously laughs. Then Taylor's "Bad Blood" starts playing. Katy looks mortified as the music cuts out and says, "Looks like we're having some technical difficulties..." as she fiddles with her earpiece. Finally Rise starts to play and Katy starts to "sing" but it's very clear that she's lip-syncing (and lip-syncing quite poorly). It gets to the "Cause my roots they run deep" lyric and it glitches and starts repeating the word "deep" over and over (like in Mean Girls), exposing her lip sync, and the track cuts out again. The "audience" (track) starts to boo. Katy dramatically throws her earpiece on the ground and lets out a lion's Roar, silencing the "audience", and announces, "Looks like we're gonna have to do this acapella". She then sings the pre-chorus and chorus completely acapella, flawlessly, and the (real) audience cheers. "Let's try that again, shall we?" Katy smiles and picks up her earpiece as the correct backing track comes into focus. She completes the rest of the song as normal, and during the final chorus, Katy is raised into the air by a concealed harness that nobody knew she was wearing (it looks like she's floating). After the final note, the harness snaps and she comes crashing to the ground. "Paramedics" rush in and wheel Katy off the stage as she's screaming, "I WILL STILL RISE!"

I think it'll be too late for Rise by the time the VMAs are here.
