FROOT is a good album overall but it bothers me that it is getting more praise than Electra Heart when it's basically Electra Heart without the electronic pop production.

Froot=Savages=Blue>Happy=Better Than That>Forget>Can't Pin Me Down>I'm A Ruin>Immortals>Gold=Solitaire

Savages, Happy and Blue are must for singles and MVs. I understand why Froot was the lead single but its production is so deceiving it doesn't represent the album very well.

Don't get why she released Immortals, Forget and I'm Ruin as promo (or regular? ) singles. Savages and Blue would've done the trick.

Also the only radio friendly song on here is Happy but only major acts can get ballads to do well in the charts and Marina is a new artist in the eyes of the GP. So she shall remain hitless this era. Well maybe Blue could do something.....not too much though.

It's NOTHING like Electra Heart. Music wise, lyric wise it's a completely different album. If it must be compared to her previous work, it's veering closer to The Family Jewels but in a more positive note. In EH she talked about wanting to hurt someone because he hurt her back, the record was dark, bitter and theatrical.
In FROOT she feels guilt about hurting someone she shouldn't, and the rest of the album has a variety of themes like her views on society, life, death and happiness.

I am referring more to the music per se not the lyrics only. Both are very confessional albums, she uses the same singing style.....just the electronic is toned down or done away with.

Decided to give this album a listen on Spotify & it's low key slaying me. Such a pleasant surprise. I love I'm A Ruin & Forget.

I don't think she uses the same singing style...yeah, i miss her heavy "manly" vocals like she had on TFJ but i found this record very different from EH. She plays with rock elements here and the whole thing is done by a live band, sth she hadn't done before. Also the production isn't over the top ( in Primadonna i couldn't even tell if it was her singing) and you can actually feel the music. It deserves all the praise cause for me it shows her evolution as an artist. I still think though that EH is grossly underrated by the critics.

I agree that the promo singles were bad choices (Happy, Immortal and to a lessor extent IAR in a row made me think the album would be too slow to hold my attention), but it was a good surprise getting a bunch of unexpected bops when the album was out.

This is ridiculous. Happy being the only radio-friendly song? Shorten them all down and they're all extremely radio-friendly. Froot, Savages, Blue and I'm A Ruin are all hits in the making.

This album is like a mixture of TFJ and EH, but with less overwhelming production than EH and less bizzare vocals than TFJ. It's her most cohesive, refined and would appeal to the most people. I thin she won't have a huge hit, or even a Primadonna-level hit, but that's okay because she isn't trying, she's trying to pick up the pieces, which she has done a great job of so far (increased sales, sales strategy getting attention on singles chart, much better reviews). Let her be
