 ✚Scattergories is a game that I have played in person with other high schoolers many times, and each time it has been pure, hilarious fun. It is so fun, in fact, that I decided to adapt it to a challenge format for my game Persistence. This challenge worked out so well that I immediately had a desire to adapt the game into a full-fledged tournament.
First, I am going to describe how the game is played in real life, then proceed to detail how I will adapt it to ATRL. In essence, Scattergories is a reverse Family Feud. The way that it works is that the host picks a letter and a few categories (usually around 10). For example, the letter might be "A" and a few categories might be "methods of transportation" and "state capitals." Everyone (or every group; the game is commonly played in groups) has a few minutes to list things that begin with the given letter and correspond to the given categories. Continuing the example, I might write "airplane" for the "methods of transportation" category, and "Albany" for the "state capitals" category. After time is up, everyone reveals their answers to each other; each person/group with a UNIQUE answer for a given category receives 1 point. However, if you write down the same thing as someone else, you don't get any points. Thus, if both me and my friend wrote down "Albany", neither of us would earn points for it.
Fortunately, this is not a difficult game to adapt to ATRL. There will be 26 rounds, as we will go through every letter of the alphabet. Each round will include 12-20 categories, with less categories for the more difficult letters. I will use Google Forms to collect your entries. You will have 2-4 days to submit your entries for each round, and I will unveil each round's results category-by-category live, almost identical to the submission & results processes in ATRL's Family Feud 3 last fall.
I have altered the scoring system a bit; instead of simply getting a point for a unique answer and no points for a non-unique answer, you will earn points based on how many people came up with unique answers. You will earn one point for each person that submitted a non-unique answer. For example, if 5 people submit a non-unique answer, everyone that DID submit a unique answer gets 5 points. This system rewards unique answers in more difficult categories. With regards to bookkeeping, I will be keeping an active leaderboard that will be updated following the conclusion of each round.
Additionally, I will make some challenging categories (perhaps one per round) "double," meaning that you'll receive double points for coming up with a unique answer. I have other twists planned that I'll reveal before I implement them. Rest assured, though, none of them involve elimination. There will not be any eliminations during this game.
Signups will remain open until January 5, 2016, which is when the first round will begin. Feel free to ask any clarifying questions in this thread.

What was wrong with a water buffalo mozzarella sandwich? Water buffalo mozzarella is a real thing and tastes different from regular mozzarella

See, I told you I would miss something. That should definitely be valid and I was sure I had marked it as so but I didn't.
Fixed in my Excel document, and the change will be accounted for when I get around to updating the leaderboard.
