There are so many viable single options on ARTPOP, it's no wonder they had such a hard ass time making up their minds on what would be the lead single (Aura vs. Sexxx Dreams vs. Applause), the second single (Venus vs. Do What U Want), and the third single (Venus vs. G.U.Y. vs. Gypsy vs. MANiCURE).
I expected the album to get old on me but it hasn't and I honestly don't think I'll ever get tired of it.
Same here. It'll forever be the album that made me comeback from the grave and stan for her music again. I thought after BTW I would never buy a Lady Gaga album again. And here I am. Thank God for ARTPOP.
Yes, a smash. The chorus is absolutely golden, and the verses echo the craziness people love and expect from Gaga. Plus, a Beyoncé remix to fit the video - if they included her in the video that is - would boost the song even more. I could see it doing at least as well as Applause in the US, but far better in Europe.
Do you really think that the radio would play Aura? The chorus is ****ing epic but the verses are meh...In USA Aura would bomb as hard as G.U.Y.

I'm pretty sure Interscope and Troy knew that Venus would have only gotten Dark Horse'd by DWUW if Venus were the second single, and business-wise, that was smart. However, they should have just let Gaga have Venus to make her happy, like Katy with Uncle, and maybe she would have been more cooperative and happy with the rest of the era.
However, we're only beating a dead horse with spilled milk over it by talking about it now. I'm just happy that Gaga is happy with Tony, Taylor, Cheek to Cheek, and presumably her upcoming pop music, and that's all that matters.

As a lead single from (what was) a highly anticipated album from an A-List artist? Yes, I do think they would. The initial radio airplay would be a guarantee, but if the public was here for it - and I do think they would have been - it's airplay would have even surpassed Applause's airplay. And it would have debuted in the Top 10 from fans buying it alone, similar to how Applause did, so there's no way it would have done worse than G.U.Y.

You're absolutely right about this, but I just can't get over the potential that ARTPOP had. I honest to goodness believe that it could have been her magnum opus if things had been managed right from the get-go.

But I agree with ya'll. ARTPOP is an amazing album and I still listen to it almost daily. I've bashed it for being a hodgepodge of songs, but it's actually, imo, her most consistent album to date. The only song I don't use is J&D but that's an obvious outlier. The rest of the album is ****ing great
Aura would smash no matter what with that demo version and a bit mastered. It was the first song i bopped after iTunes festival.
EDIT : I read that people hated BR once it released but you never know what will happen.
Good point. Bad Romance did NOT sound like a radio smash when it first leaked. And look how that turned out.
But honestly, this isn't 2009 anymore. EDM is on its way out, not on its way in like it was back then. It's a different musical environment, and I really don't think Aura would've done that well.

No, not worse than G.U.Y., but it would have easily killed most of the momentum surrounding Gaga's "comeback", and likely made her follow-up singles flop. The chorus is stellar, but it alone doesn't make Aura a good single, let alone a good lead single. Applause may not have been the very best choice for the lead single, but it was one of the better ones.

It wasn't that they couldn't decide . . . more like Gaga and Troy and Interscope all wanted different things. Gaga wanted Aura, Interscope and Troy would've rathered Gypsy or Applause. Obviously Gaga didn't get her way and that's how the mess began

Do not pay attention to my hatred towards BTW. I really do hate it, apart from 3-4 songs. The important thing is, I'm happy to see you saying such nice things about the album of the millenium, ARTPOP.

That might've been the case for the first two, but Troy was gone by the third single, so my point still stands.
