So I've finally listened to the album in full, and unfortunately, I'd hyped myself up too much so I'm a little bit let down. Don't get me wrong, it's a great album, but it just didn't live up to my expectations.
It didn't help that she released all the best songs before the album release date. Octahate, The Fool, and Sail On are all STUNNING, and Promises and Stay Low are fantastic as well. I would rate all of them at 10/10.
So, of the six new songs... I LOVE Runaway and Pierre. I would put them both on the same level of O, TF, and SO. That was the calibre I was expecting from the whole album (which is a bit unfair, but que sera sera).
Free is good but not great, and the last three songs all feel like filler. And in an album of 11 songs, there can't be any filler. I'll listen to them more, obviously, but as of yet, I can't even distinguish between Traveling Song, Here Is Home, and New Constellations.
STILL. Overall a great album and a great debut and she really deserves to be massively successful! If Charli can do it, so can Ryn!
Mess. The final 3 tracks are soooooooooooooo good.
"Travelling Song" is so pretty".
"Here Is Home" is just dazzling. One of my faves.
And "New Constellations" is some lyrical REALNESS. What a dramatic closer.
The whole album is on that EP level - and better than "Promises" - other than "Runaway" and "Free".
I don't get the disappointment.
