I want Lana to get the #1, I've not heard UV in full but the tracks I have listened to sound really promising.
I also don't think Sam deserves it. He has so much talent but the quality of the songs on his record don't live up to it, a lot of it is very bland, safe and average.
It's a shame because he put out an EP last year and the couple of original songs on it were fantastic. I saw him last September and was a little let down by the acoustic-based songs.
YOUR NEW RELEASES: With one day under their belts, we think that Lana Del Rey will come out with the gold on next week's album chart for Ultraviolence, but Sam Smith is closing the gap with In the Lonely Hour. We're certain, however, that Linkin Park will snag the bronze.
Lana Del Rey (Interscope) 170-190k Sam Smith (Capitol) 140-160k Linkin Park (Warner Bros.) 100-110k Willie Nelson (Legacy) 35-40k Jennifer Lopez (Capitol) 30-35k Deadmau5 (Mau5trap/Astralwerks) 25-30k Tiesto (Casablanca/Republic) 12-15k
We feel quite comforted and acknowledged this week, as we generally relate strongly to ultraviolence, loneliness and hunting. (6/18p)
CAVEAT LECTOR: Early, early reads in advance of next week's three-way chart battle have Interscope's Lana Del Rey at 175-200k, Capitol's Sam Smith at 140-160k and Warner Bros.' Linkin Park at 110-120k. Take these with the usual grains of salt and stand by for further updates. (6/17p)
Predicted numbers are changing daily, Looks like a close race, Last year Sam was mixing drinks in a bar. Now he's having too much fun. JLO is doing better than I had predicted. LP - The TV exposure helped,

I'm not a monster tho... But Sam's album has really hit me and I love the entire album, so I think he deserves it! I mean songs like 'Not in that Way', 'Leave Your Lover', 'Lay Me Down'>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Pathetic to say Sam doesnt deserve it. Of all the new artist this year he is by far the most critically applauded and has won all the most prestigous critic awards(BRITS critic choice, BBC sound of 2014). He's doing it on pure talent. All over the internet I see comments about his voice and how his music is touching people on a deep level.
Iggy is another big impacting artist this year but I very rarely see praise for her vocal abilities or writing. Its usually just generic praise like "slay queen" from popgirl fans. With Sam its all about the voice and the music.
