This f(x) Japanese version is pretty terrible, no wonder they flopped.
The snowy candy Christmas concept when the song is called Hot Summer
The outfits. The cheap-ass paint effects. The reused Electric Shock set. And the lyrics are a mess as well.
The fact f(x) don't have a member that can speak Japanese kind of restricted them from promoting in Japan too, which is a shame. f(x) should have a Chinese debut.
The Korean version of Mamma Mia wasn't all that great either...
I mean regardless of whether you like the song or not (which I do tbh nice addition to the KARA legacy may their career rest in peace) the vocals sound so bad in the Japanese version. Like Seungyeon and Gyuri are fine but Hara sis... And the chorus. And Youngji sounding like she's in intestinal distress. Just a mess overall, 4.5/10 would not recommend.
The Japanese version of Empty is okay except for the chorus. Jinwoo sounds decent though you can blatantly hear the amped-up lower octave vocals to hide his falsetto, but Taehyun

Yeah. And I have no idea why SM has not tried to promote f(x) in China. Victoria is popular there, and Amber also speaks Chinese.
They promote other acts in China, so why not f(x)? And also SNSD. Hyoyeon, Seohyun and Taeyeon are all good enough in Chinese to get by, plus Yoona and Jessica are super popular there, so I have no idea why SM hasn't attempted to debut them there either.

This is the key point here, I mean her 13.5 million Weibo followers isn't exactly unimpressive.
f(x) have a fluent member and a near-fluent member, so why they've never been promoted in China I have NO clue.
Um...
Mamma Mia fared well upon first listen, but after a while, the noisy production started to annoy me, and the melodically, it's a little lacklustre. Like it lifts up, but I feel like it kind of goes nowhere.

I mean, that's true. And even though I think it would be cool, I do always wonder why SM invests his time with China, since the music industry there from a money-making point of view is kind of dead. Like, what even is China's music chart? And have recent releases from the likes of EXO-M and SJ-M even impacted them? Plus isn't like 90%+ of the music in China pirated? Like, maybe it's not such a good idea.

But the funny thing is, Victoria IS Chinese.
And since she's 27, she's probably been begging SM for a China debut and they haven't been listening to her.
RV won't succeed in China. None of them speak Chinese. Seulgi speaks Japanese and Wendy is Canadian. I don't see China working for them.
Wow, I didn't realise Lim was fluent in English, like flawlessly. JYP really went hard with his plans to promote them in America. Cool it guise I don't know WG that much

The money isn't really in the music, it's in the promotion/merchandise/touring and other activities.
Look at Yoona and Jessica. They are so popular in China. Jessica has a Weibo account with millions of followers and Yoona is well known because of dramas. Both of them have promotions in China/Taiwan/Macau and make so much $$$ from it.
SM probably knows that the music ventures don't make much money, but when the China CFs come rolling in, the cash goes up a lot. So I have no clue why he skipped China for f(x) and SNSD.
