I didn't think the first Halloween remake was particularly BAD but I don't think it was great either. I thought it was entertaining. I own it but I only watched it once, I may actually watch it again someday soon. I've been on a slasher kick as of late. However, I thought the second Halloween remake was beyond horrid. I remember disliking it a lot.
As for Mama, I didn't love that either. I think it had some interesting elements and some good acting, which is usually missing in horror. But I could be biased because I love Jessica Chastain. I also thought some of the visuals were really good. (One shot in particular I loved was
when one of the girls was playing in the room with Mama but you don't realize it's Mama until the other girl comes up at the end of the hallway
). But overall, I didn't think it was scary in anyway and the whole ending was a mess in so many ways.
Tonight I watched the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and it was okay. Not really good in any way but not a total waste of time either. I don't look for slashers to really be that great anyway, so I try not to judge too harshly. I thought Jessica Biel was good. There was some really, really stupid stuff in it and some decisions were just absolutely stupid. I can see why people who love the original would hate it though.
