The Super Bowl works like any TV sports program. Highest ratings are in the beginning and end, with people tuning out in the middle for other shows, boredom, etc. Some 10 minute gig with Coldplay won't be changing that.

Call it a gimmick all you want, it still worked based on people caring enough about her to buy the album

And people put far too much emphasis on hits carrying albums. Where is Flo Rida his album on the chart? In 2016 a hit does nothing for promoting an album except SPS, and Adele is proof you don't even need that if your selling power is strong enough.
