You're probably watching with the OBH glasses, I mean, she's obviously not doing anything groundbreaking but to say that she's doing terrible when she's literally dancing better than almost 90% of any other current popstar right now...
She's not doing terribly, but she's hardly doing good. She's put on a lower pedestal than any one of her peers so her standards of doing good or great these days would be considered bad or tragic if the exact same performance was put on by, say, Beyoncé, or Madonna, Janet, etc... during their peak
the girls see all those flashing lights, huge production and professional dancers and think gurney "did great " when she even can't even keep up with them, imagine being like that
