I don't know what you meant to say here, but 1.) The Strangers is ****ing awesome, and 2.) Saw III is indeed not as good (still good though).

These movies are not necessarily based on continuity for the most part. Part 2 is a pretty hokey, campy sequel that tonally is very different from the first. "Leatherface" (part 3) is an attempt to be more scary again, and there's an unrated version out there that was pretty gory for its time. "The Next Generation" (originally "Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre") is basically a remake/reboot of sorts of the first film, but does refer to the events of the last couple of movies for a hot second. Nonetheless, if you like the first, you will probably not like the sequels. They are not good. In the same lore though, Texas Chainsaw 3D is the most proper sequel, continuity-wise at least.
The remake with Jessica Biel and the prequel to it with Jordana Brewster are not related to the original films in regard to story (they are related to each other though, obvs), but are fantastic movies and worth a watch. Honestly, they are both better than any of the original sequels IMO.
