It sounds quite stupid, but the only sales that matter are those during & following the debut week. Had Let It Go been released like this it would be nearing 200k sales instead of being at 97k. Even if it flops this way the end result will still be better than if they never made the single 'album-only'

'Letting it grow' wouldn't work for Demi. Katy Perry currently has 3 singles in the top 40 on radio & she's the most played artist of the past month (10,682 plays). Demi (242 plays) doesn't have the luxury of being an established artist with instant radio play to the masses for her singles, which is why she must rely on pre-orders.
