Except WANEGBT :X
She's always had a poppy side the difference now is she's succumbed to radio trends, autotune, gimmicks and production. i think that's where people say she's selling out. Yes she's always been pop but she's never made pop music that sounded like you could plop Katy Perry on the track wnd no one would know the difference. Taylor's always been different that's why Speak Now wasn't successful on pop radio. It was different, it was good, it had meaningful lyrics, and it didn't fall prey to the trends of the time. You'll be able to listen to it in 10 years and it'll still sound new. A few of her newer songs will sound dated in few years because they're based on fads.
That's being said I don't think she's sold out (just yet) She made some super commercial radio friendly songs that aren't my cup of tea. Personally I think she's better than those songs and don't think they're the best direction for her. She just needs to realize this herself and not sell herself short. She said she doesn't want to peak at 18 but commercial success shouldn't be the marker for career success. I don't want her to peak at 20.
But I don't want her making generic country music just for the sake of making country songs either. Begin Again isn't a good song because its country, the production is just a bonus for me

It'd be a good song even if you took the fiddle, steel and mandolin out and made it a pop ballad. <3
I don't even know what I'm saying anymore tbh. lol.
