I am not a Christina hater. I honestly don't like her current attitude, but I wouldn't say I have it in for her and I don't hope for her to flop. But in regards to the movie, I *truly* do think Cher is going to carry much of the weight. Why? She's a legend. Bigtime. Christina's very successful too, but not in the same legendary status as Cher. Does that mean Christina doesn't deserve some credit? No, I'm sure she's a great actress and people will enjoy her. I just think that a LOT of the success would come from Cher's being in it. I do not stan for Cher, by the way. I don't really like her music, but even I must admit she's a legend.
If it flops, then I would simply blame promotion. As of yet, I have not seen any ads on TV, nothing.

It's way too early for them to really start their promotional campaign. Technically though, with the trailer, they've started.
Cher looks like she's going to steal the show b/c she plays the fun, sassy character. Plus, she's an amazing, Oscar-winning actress. People tend to forget her fantastic performances in MOONSTRUCK, SILKWOOD, MASK, etc.
Edit: I'm surprised there are no online reviews yet like on aintitcool. I know for a fact Sony has had screenings.

Releasing in a lot of countries doesn't guarantee meeting budget....but I'm sure it will anyway. $40 million is pretty cheap. It would have to absolutely flop to not meet it, and I don't think this will flop too bad.

40-50M isn't that cheap, esp as it excludes P&A. Whatever it grosses, the studio only gets to keep half.

You may not be a Christina hater, but you don't usually say very nice things about her as well. At least, you're not a troll like some few...
But I respect your opinions since everyone has their own thoughts and their own feelings about certain things or people.
I think if the movie does well, it's because of alot of things: Yes, Cher of course; people interested in Christina's acting debut; the cast (it's a pretty good cast); and it's a musical. Many people like musicals.
I did say that about the haters because it's true. Like I said, they're predictable and very closed minded. They talk and talk about how their fave is awesome and how Christina sucks, but that just make them seem frightened. It really does.
And that goes to some people too that usually act like: "oh this will flop, this will do badly, I'm not so sure if this will do well, but I like her, I'm not a hater" If you're not a hater, please at least every once in a while, say something nice about her or give some support. It isn't that hard to do...
And that is just my humble opinion

I change my words. It's not cheap for a movie like Burlesque, which may flop or do decently. Otherwise $40 million is not bad for the typical film, because most are budgeted in that range, unless it's an action or animation worth more, or a film that literally didn't cost as much. If the film is expected to be a hit, $40m+ is nothing.

I think it would be great if the buzz she could get from Burlesque saves Bionic. At this point, the album is done, Christina and her label chose the wrong singles, so now they are gonna have to deal with that.

The thing is, "hate" means absolute loathing, dislike. Why would a hater say something nice? And if a hater is a hater, let em be. Some people have offered valid reasons for their being a hater and as long as they have just cause, they can be a hater.
What distinguishes them from trolls is that a hater will occasionally comment on what they hate about Xtina or her attitude, yadda yadda. Just an opinion, done tastefully without being downright mean. Even so, I've seen some haters venture into almost every thread to give their opinion (negative), but with valid points. No bashing or insulting.
Trolls, on the other hand, will look for EVERY opportunity, EVERY thread to bash on the hated celebrity. Many times, it's just baseless insults. You only need venture to GaGa threads to see two or three very notorious trolls.
In the end, I actually don't know how Burlesque will do - it is impossible to predict. It looks great, but musicals can go either way (if it is indeed a musical).
How do you know I've said nothing but negatives on Christina? Have you ventured into my posts? Sure, I've discussed how her attitude as of late has left me miffed; or that her album is not quite up to par. I'm sorry if you don't like negative posts about Christina, but what do you want me to say? And hopefully you don't pull that "if you can't say something nice" stuff, because that isn't how things work. I'm a big fan of Lady Gaga and stuff gets said about her all the time - big deal. People have the right to express contempt for her.
I've also commented that she has an exceptionally lovely voice that I truly do enjoy. This era is just a big mess for her and I believe she needs to readjust the attitude and refocus. It'll come in due time.

Sure, everybody has the right to dislike certain people and I fully respect that. I mean, everyone has their favorite singer or band and everyone has their 'least' favorite singer or band. I dislike certain singers and bands too, of course. But that doesn't make me go to other threads and disrespect them, I don't go to other threads just to hate and you know... troll. Because there's quite a few trolls around here that like you said, will look for EVERY opportunity, EVERY thread to bash (in this case) Christina. Yes, they may have their reasons to hate or dislike Christina, but one thing is to discuss, other thing is to just bash and again... troll

Oh you can say negative things about Christina all you want, if that makes you feel better. I was only saying that negativism was the only thing I read from your posts whenever you post in Christina related threads. So yeah, ok, you're not liking 'this' Christina. I can respect that.
I just think that it's unfair the amount of hate Christina's getting right now. It's like people are not giving her a chance. It's like people wanted her to fail. I mean she created a freaking song for us, her fans, thanking us for all she has, and then they call her a bitch and say she doesn't care about us? This was just one example but I think you know what I mean... I just think it's unfair. (and I really love Bionic, too bad it's underrated)
But I guess I should start ignoring them, then. I'm still pretty 'new' in these type of forums... But I mean, if people can have their opinions and go 'in' in certain people and say whatever they want, so can I

Well I mentioned it a few posts back, pre-Bionic release, that her Lady Gaga comments might have helped bring about all the hate. Does she have a right to criticize her? Absolutely. Is it a smart career move? Absolutely not. Lady Gaga's fanbase is in the gazillions...almost quite literally. The power of these fans to boycott or influence is tremendous. Is it right to withhold your opinion like this? No. But unfortunately, that's how it works. I think Christina has a right to criticize Gaga, I just think that it wasn't a smart career move to attack someone of that magnitude. I can only presume this is where the hate is coming from. I am a Lady Gaga fan (NOT STAN), but I absolutely don't viciously bash artists who don't like gaga.
No hard feelings, I am glad you were not offended by my post. It seems that we both have the same idea!
