Reports that Mariah Carey has rescheduled several upcoming appearances has left many fans wondering if something might be wrong with the singer.

Carey, 40, had been tentatively set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Aug. 25, perform on Today Aug. 28, and also tape an episode of VH1's Storytellers.

But the singer's publicist Cindi Berger tells PEOPLE there is no reason for concern: "These dates have been postponed and not cancelled," she said Friday.

A source says the singer is completing her new album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, the release of which has been pushed to Sept. 29.

"Record release dates change all the time," Berger confirms. "It's nothing unusual and it doesn't signal anything. There are a lot of moving parts to Mariah's professional life … She's making sure the record is how she wants it to be and its no big deal."

In addition to working on her album, Carey is launching another perfume line and promoting her upcoming film, Precious, which is produced by Oprah Winfrey and opens in November.

The reason for the calendar re-jiggering is explained further on Carey's official Website: "Mariah is putting the finishing touches on her newest album, and we have shifted all of our TV and promo appearances to coincide with the new release date of September 29th. We can't wait for the fans to hear the new album!!"

Well I'm glad she didn't permanently cancel her appearances but she should still at least present at the VMAs but if not oh well she still has her other appearances. Hopefully her second single will fair better on the charts also I mean Obsessed is not a flop but could've done better. As for Whitney I still love her but I'm becoming not as interested about it anymore cuz she hasn't shot any videos for her new songs and the songs are ok but nothing compared to how her other songs were but I would deny that but her and Mariah are legendary and I love them both.

Mariah Carey-despite idiotic postings elsewhere-is gearing up for her big new CD release.

Mariah feels so strongly about "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" that she's even re-hired the PR powerhouse that made her second-stage career such a success. She's back with Cindi Berger of PMK HBH. It was Berger who made her "Emancipation of Mimi" the biggest hit of Mariah's career. Smart move.

Of course, that means both Mariah and Whitney Houston are now being repped by the same PR company. PMK's Kristen Foster is handling Whitney with my old pal, Jill Fritzo.

"Memoirs" was scheduled for an August 25th release, then moved to September 15th. Now it's set for September 29th. If the regular Grammy deadline had been in place-September 30th-Mariah would have made it. But the unfortunate early deadline of August 31st cut her off. So she has some slack time to get "Memoirs" just right.

The first single from Mariah's CD will not be "Obsessed"-that was just a summer trifle, and it was a lot of fun. The real first official single is said to be a powerhouse ballad along the lines of "Vision of Love."

A lot of people in the media recently got a chance to preview a 6 track sampler of Mariah Carey's new album that label Def Jam have been out & about playing. Well luckily for me an acquaintance of mine was one of those people, and they typed up a short review for me of their thoughts on the songs so I could publish it here. Take a look below.

1 - Candy Bling. By far my favourite. It took me back to the days of Underneath the Stars. Except that this time it is obviously UTS on her terms. So we have more airy notes and no belting - a theme throughout Memoirs . Everyone was loving this track. A lot of heads were nodding round the room.

2 - Obsessed. 'Nuff said. Like the idea that it was just something festive for summer. No matter what I thought this was hot. Really think it's edgy ALTHOUGH if you gave it to Cassie or whoever else it would sound normal. Only because it's Mariah does it sound edgy.

3 - H.A.T.E. U. I feel JD might have wanted to progress or whatever so she picks up with the other producer out there who can give her some mid-tempo summer jamz - The Dream. Didn't like the demo, wasn't a fan of this.

4 - Standing O. Was good. I think it was at this point that I realised something. No matter how hard she tries, like Kylie, she will never be cool. OK, Butterfly era was kinda cool, but really that was it. Let it go. Stop chasing rainbows! But back to the track. I liked this one, it was nice but again very mid-tempo. But very soulful which is something the head of Island Records said about the record.

5 - Impossible. About Nick. Slow jam. Blah.

6 - I Want To Know What Love Is. I liked it and it got a great reception. However there is a really uncomfortable key change mid way where it suddenly goes apeshit and you think the CD is skipping. She should have drawn the single out with another bridge or extra chorus to allow the run up to seem more natural. I guess it's hard when the song is someone else's. But you know she's had big success with rock ballads so there is definitely a formula for her.

Hmm. I've said it before and I'll say it again - the album sounds fine, decent, but not amazing. I'm really not liking that there doesn't seem to be much musical growth on Mariah's part, but I'm going to have to hear it myself to make up my mind. It's not a good sign that she wanted to stick with her typical contemporary mid-tempo R&B songs though, because the main reason I disliked "E=MC2" was because of the ballads so she better not be delivering more of the same. Switch it up girl! I'm actually excited to hear "Candy Bling" though, it sounds nice.
