Once I heard that Taylor was doing another song for the Hunger Games, I was excited. I was ready for another Safe and Sound. Instead I got this. It’s always nice to see Taylor delve into new genres, but this time around it just fell flat. Taylor’s voice just seems to get lost behind the strong drum beats and guitar riffs. The lyrics are nice but I still don’t know why this was chosen as the single over Safe and Sound. SaS is both haunting and perfect, this song is just okay.

Here you go madonnas. I think what made this so great for me was that at the time of release, it showed a different side of Carrie that I didn’t expect to see. It was darker and more mature and Carrie’s vocals just take the song home. I do wish there was more emotion in her voice (like there was in Mama’s Song and Don’t Forget to Remember Me, but you messes voted them out ) but it’s still a nice song. Also, I take back what I previously said about Carrie’s acting. I just saw the music video for this and come on girl.

For me, this is like the successor of Goodbye Earl (please come back Dixie Chicks, we need you ). The lyrics, the production, Miranda’s attitude, everything in this song is just perfect. I can’t believe you bitter hoes gave this Avril’s What The Hell treatment. The only difference is this time, the song actually deserved to go top 10 rather than peaking at 11.

And here you go Jake. The more attractive and intelligent twin sister of Good Girl, Cowboy Casanova has an undeniable catchiness to it. Barring Last Name, this is probably Carrie’s most fun single and by far her most infectious. I swear, whenever I’m in the car and I hear the Oh-oh’s at the beginning, I prepare myself for a 4 minute bopping session the likes of which ya’ll have never seen.

This is almost where I put it (#8 for me) in my personal countdown, though it would be much higher in the context of the songs left. I think this was the first song I ever heard from Taylor. The fool in me thought nothing of it and refused to see that this was obviously the beginnings of greatness. I actually find the production on this to be pretty bland, but Swift’s voice and lyrics bring the song to life. Definitely one of her best songs, I’m glad it made the top 10.
