Being ignored seems unfair especially when the quality of music is poor, in general. But in the very it may bring some positive feedback. The most extreme of that is Michael Jackson. When he recorded his 1st adult solo album – Off The Wall (1979), it was loved by the public ignored by the music industry to which he was still just a boysband member. He was hurt and devastated, since he was really proud of this LP. He was like… **** it! Next time I’ll record such an album that will top charts all over the world, break all possible records and no one will even dare to ignore it. And then he came up with THRILLER.
But, I personally think Bruno doesn’t mind how this era turn out. And he doesn’t want to get huge praise for that album. Everytime he speaks about D-W&H, I feel he tries to emphasize it just the beginning, and it’s not coincidence, I think.

Yeah! It does make sense. Unless you’re Bruno Mars and you release albums to do what you love doing the most – touring. I got used to the fact that nothing in his era is typical. But it paid off. As far as I remember his 1st album didn’t get only positive reviews – they were pretty varied. All that praise he got came from live shows reviews – there wasn’t even one that bashed his performing abilities, his charisma and his connection with the audience – such things are exactly what makes sb a performer interesting enough to make thousands of people buy a ticket. I was glad to see his growth as a performer within D-W&H era, and I’m sure he’ll keep that tradition going.
What’s more, the his fanbase growst he fastest after his live performances. People love watching him on stage, they see in him a true entertainer and that’s what differs him from other people in this industry. This + his sense of humor + hard work will take him to the top not only for few years, but it all will give him the longevity he’s rooting for.
