Album Review:
This comes as to no surprise to see Katy Perry once again for my list with the amazing album Teenage Dream. I reason I included Teenage Dream once again for this year is that I personally loved this record all throughout the year. There isn’t a single day of the week that I listened to this record. What can I say? Katy Perry had another amazing year for 2011 thanks to the success of all her smash #1 singles. Who could forget last year’s summer anthem ‘California Gurls’ that started it all; or singing to the heart-whelming track ‘Teenage Dream’. Katy Perry even gave us her signature song to date which is the smash hit ‘Firework’, one of my personal favorites of the album and probably your own anthem. Early this year, I am not sure if Katy will still smash as other pop artists are making an anticipated comeback like Britney Spears and Lady Gaga, but it surprised me with the success of the monster hit ‘E.T.’ where she collaborated with Kanye West propelling this to the top spot. Another party song which is one of my favorites ‘Last Friday Night’ continues to break record as it became the 5th #1 song by Katy Perry to hit the top spot on one album making her the 2nd artist to accomplish such feat after the legendary king of Pop, Michael Jackson. She even spend more than a year in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her singles. The Teenage Dream story doesn’t end there as ‘The One That Got Away’ continues the chapter of successful singles. It’s just a few spots away from the top spot. I’m crossing my fingers it will get there at some point. The remaining unreleased songs from the album are also potential chart toppers waiting in the wings. ‘Peacock’ remains to be a catchy track to listen to having naughty lyrics written all over it. The angry side is shown on the track ‘Circle The Drain’ where Katy sings that she wants to be a lover, not a ****ing mother. ‘What Am I Living For?’ shows a dark side of the album while Katy gets sentimental with the ballad ‘Pearl’. Here, Katy sings about a girl who shines in the crowd just like a pearl but being with the guy, she’s now inside a shell. The mood shifts to a fun side on ‘Hummingbird Hearbeat’ and the amazing teenage journey ends with ‘Not Like The Movies’ which perfectly closes the curtains of this amazing record. I did not make a mistake including Teenage Dream on my list once again. Breaking records after the other. With this album, I have come to be a Katy Perry fan and I can’t wait to see her attain more accomplishments with this one.
