I really think if it weren't for the Superbowl, Damita Jo would be remembered more positively even with Janet fans (not to mention that the singles probably would have done better). I think it would be treated similar to AFY (albeit a lesser version) where we all agree it has several really fantastic songs, but acknowledge that it was a step down from her previous material but can still appreciate and enjoy for what it is. But since she didn't get to tour with it and none of the singles took off, it didn't get to have any sort of longevity and it marks the beginning of the dark ages.

I hate that it gets lumped in with the dark ages albums in discussions typically. And don't get me started about when people praise Discipline and trash DJ. I'm just like...

This. DJ is soo much better quality-wise than the other 2. It used to be my favorite Janet album. It also has her best interludes imo.

Yep Black Cat went #1 on the Hot 100 as well as the Mainstream Rock Charts. And it was self-written and produced by her.

Skip them. Start with Control, then listen chronologically. Maybe after you finish her most recent go back and give them a try.

Son of a Gun (original, explicit album version) is a favorite of mine, but lately I've been conflicted between That's The Way Love Goes (from janet.) and Someone To Call My Lover (from AFY) as my favorite.

All For You is literally pop perfection though. I remember when it came out people exploded. Plus HEW ELSE but Janet can get away with saying, "Got a nice package alright, guess I'm gonna have to ride it tonight," and not raise any controversy.

You'll likely love the album that connects with you most right now in your life. Each album has a general theme that goes along with it, so you'll probably fall for what mimics your life most now.

Honestly don't worry I have terrible OCD but her first two albums are like a totally different (faceless) artist.

My fave Janet song changes quite a bit but my all-time Top 3 is definitely The Pleasure Principle, When I Think of You and That's the Way Love Goes. RN1814 is my fave album though

20 Y.O. had the worst interludes: "I don't know, that's what I do know." Janet sis. At least Discipline had an interesting idea, with the exception of "What is the greatest...s...ex you've ever had?" I could definitely picture her talking to Kyoko, I just wish we had some interesting visuals to go along with them.

My fave upbeat Janet song is definitely Come On Get Up from the AFY album or Island Life from DJ

She just has such a diverse discography it's so hard to pick favourites

Discipline literally has only 4 good songs. Feedback, Luv, Rock With U & Can't B Good. The rest were It was a better album than 20. flop.o for sure but it definitely isn't better than Damita Jo.

I think every song on Damita Jo is enjoyable even though she's basically singing about the same thing in every song. Plus the interludes are blissful

Yes from Discipline I love ID, Good Morning Janet, Play Selection and Back. Kyoko was such a great idea imo, very futuristic.

Greatest X is trash, probably her worst song EVER

I love Greatest X! So Much Betta is a bop too
