Exactly. Justin, Ariana and Rihanna all had buzz tracks before their album releases, and they're all slaying now. Honestly I don't want to think of an era plan that goes straight into a lead single... she needs to hop on a feature or something.

Why put effort into a buzz single when she could put her all into the lead

I agree that she should hop on a feature in the meantime though, just to keep her name afloat. Like I've said before, I'd love a collab with a DJ like Duke Dumont.

despite what these atrl users who are very much so out of touch with reality...katy perry is still a household name and one of the biggest pop stars of today so her name alone can easily skyrocket her new single to the top 5 if not #1 as long as it's good. i mean yeah if she's holding off and waiting till next year to release new music then it would be really great for her to do some collab or movie soundtrack to keep her name out there & start some buzz but it's not necessary per se.

You're right, why should Katy put effort into her music?

I'm not talking about crafting a song specifically designed to be a buzz track while she works on the rest of the album. I know that often with pop music the "lead single" is often one of the last tracks written and it's written with the intention of it being the lead single. I get that. But every song on the album should be of good enough quality and have effort put into it anyway. Releasing a buzz track (i.e. an album track) as just a taste of what's to come would be good to get the era momentum going because she has nothing right now... no smash fifth single, no Super Bowl hype... nothing.

She doesn't seem to want to do features but I'd love that. Preferably with Major Lazer.

Don't be delusional. Katy is in the exact same position as Gaga was coming off the BTW era. Had some big hits, ended on a flop, waited ages to release her comeback single and ultimately flopped.

Exactly. Justin and Ariana released buzz singles because they actually needed to. Ariana's not on Katy's level and Justin was basically coming back from the dead after a ton of backlash.

Rihanna's 2015 singles weren't even buzz singles. They were originally supposed to be leads to ANTi before the project got scrapped/pushed back (or whatever the hell happened within that year). So I'm not sure how she's a good comparison either.

Katy is a household name, the GP loves her. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to spend less time on ATRL!

lol mte for all we know the gp aren't even aware of tihwd & birthday in their minds dark horse is probably the last single katy released...justin suffered from a huge backlash because he was an asshole for like a year...ariana had her own donut i hate america scandal...gaga received tons of bad press for working with r kelly & so on...how exactly is katy in the same position as them lol? last thing she did was an acclaimed superbowl and has continued to receive good press even in the midst of the bad blood mess...

Gaga wrapped up Born This Way badly by cancelling her tour after a string of badly performing singles and only one true hit.

Katy wrapped up PRISM with two #1s, $200m tour, becoming highest earning female entertainer ever, half time show & a Grammys performance. She made the era look like it did well and took away from the underperformances of the last two singles.

She's in a great place, if she releases this year. All she needs to do is hype up the lead like she did with Roar, that was brilliant marketing.

PS, buzz tracks are a TERRIBLE idea for pop singers. Especially since Katy is over 30. If it doesn't latch on like a lead single would it'd sabotage the whole era. Buzz tracks are a rappers thing for a reason.

wtf no she is not She just ended an era with two smash hits (far bigger than BTW), a $200m grossing tour, a record-breaking SB performance and solid album sales. She's bigger and in a better position than Gaga was at the end of BTW.

She could still underperform if the music sucks but I genuinely think she'll have a OOTB-sized era
