Biggest movies of the year include CW, Deadpool, BvS, X-Men Apoc, Kung Fu Panda 3, London Has Fallen, etc. Still to come: Finding Dory, Rogue One, Fantastic Beasts, etc.
Sequels are still bolstering Hollywood. X-Men hit a major peak with DOFP that they just couldn't repeat with a movie like this, but's it's not really the standard for how sequels perform. They don't necessarily want it to outperform the last one as long as it makes money since production costs are usually higher on sequels. Having sequels allows Disney to franchise the **** out of it, hence Cars (the lowest end critically and one of the lowest ends commercially for Pixar) keeps getting sequels.

I'm happy with that tbh, WW is what matters at the end of the day.

I get the disappointment, at least for me. Personally, I dont watch trailers of movie I'm 100% gonna see.
So after the last scene of DOFP, and finding out the next one was called Apocalypse; I was expecting the old x men to fight against him ( Like bring the A Game, the pro mutant against the real Bad dude).
I was expecting a really epic battle; not some newbies defeating him.
|
I get what you mean, but really the newbies lost against apocalypse, hell even Magneto, Mystique and Prof X lost as the "veterans"
It was only the phoenix that made it possible to defeat him, along with final push from Storm, Magneto and Cyclops.

This is a good point, while it may not be topping DOFP like we hoped, its still a massive film that will be successful this year (in a really super competitive year).

Also after watching the film for a second time, I definitely enjoyed it more. The opening scene, House explosion and the end fight were definitely the highlights for me.
Although i'm 100% sure Storms scenes were slowed down and edited differently in the trailers, because her scene time when she is using the lightening against cyclops is over in half a second, where as the trailers made it seem much longer.

And the first photo from Wolverine 3 Hes looking very battered and old, more evidence for the old man Logan story I guess.
(First time seeing wolverine in a suit? )

has already beaten DOFP's OW in China after two days, will prob be around 60m USD for the OW (DOFP did 39m). Warcraft is opening in 5 days and is huge in China so the final gross should be around DOFP's gross since foreign films find it hard to co-exist there..

I wonder if this Wolverine 3 film is going to be OML leading to a reworked 'Death of Wolverine' story that'll enable them to use the 'Essex' storyline to hire a new actor for the character.

I think OML is all but confirmed at this point. Although I feel like they might try and bring in X23 maybe. I can't see them replacing Hugh any time soon.

Oh yeah he was. Honestly only ever watched the Wolverine films a couple of times But i'm really excited for W3 because of the future setting + I feel like they have learnt from their mistakes of the first 2.

No.. Not really. The films part of a franchise that haven't been doing well commercially also have done badly critically with both the fanbase and the reviewers.
Civil War has been celebrated as Marvel's best film thus far washing out the bad taste of Avengers 2 and setting up excitement for the creative direction moving forward. That's also largely why a lot of people went to see it, because everyone from the movie fans, to the comic fans to the critics celebrated it. Deadpool while not a sequel but rather part of a franchise also was celebrated for being inventive and clever with its franchise links.
BvsS, FF and X:A both share one essential thing, they both have been clocked by pretty much everyone as demonstrating a lack of direction or creativity in both plot, cinematography and storylines. That they're basically rehashes of stories already seen or repeating choices that they've been criticised for before. The big panic in those camps atm is finding a way to basically produce a franchise with an overarching world and stylistic ingenuity.

Oh yeah I know, I mean replace as in reboot his character with a new actor. It would be a low-key insult to recast wolverine so soon after Hugh stopped playing him.

Im rewatching X:A for the third time and wow, the scene where Apocalypse takes over Charles' mind and then sends the nuclear weapons to space is amazing. Specially the part where A says "No more stones. No more spears. No more slings. No more swords. NO MORE SYSTEMS. NO MORE! No more superpowers" and his voice gets deeper at the end

But its strange, I cringed so hard the first time I saw it and he said "superpowers" but the second time I loved that scene, it was so powerful

I also rewatched it recently and I actually enjoyed it more. The only thing that stood out to me the second time was how poor the dialogue is. Kinberg sis...
