Well... releasing her signature sound (except TSOU maybe) did not work for SN-s longevity, did it? She needed a change to freshen things up. How it works remains to be seen.

my point too.. if the pop songs are great, i wont mind them in there .. but i need them ballads to feel better about everything .. y'know its classic taylor, i feel good listening to them! and i know they are in the album, so i m not worried..

i keep reminding myself that i dint like Mean and Mine before the SN release too..

Dude, you know me. I really don't give a single **** about sales. And she definitely needs to change things up. I NEVER said I'm against it. But this 'change' feels like a very calculated move aimed for commercial success only. And targeting certain audience. If we look outside the Pop bubble, people are hating these new stuffs. For her career in the long run and her reputation on music junkie & GP, this generic pop stuffs are not doing her any favour. Aiming for the wrong audience.

She was on the right path with "Safe & Sound" tbh.

Singles are generally meant to be more simplistic and relatable. Its very likely we have a few 6-minute masterpieces a la 'Last Kiss'/'Dear John' on the album but it does not make sense to give them single-treatment.

How did you feel when 'Speak Now' was released as a first promo single? Not very good lyrically, imo.

i love the lyrics on IKYWT.. and i m not even much bothered with lyrics anyways.. its the sound i m concerned about! and IKYWT sounds great too.. i just feel pop music is easy to go wrong with!

I see it as her making the music she wants to make with people she's wanted to work with, as she's been saying since we first got those details about the next album. She gained that status where now she can go around asking to work with these people and they do it. We knew she likes all sorts of music so these collabs sounding different shouldn't be much of a shocker.

Well, reasons why I feel this era has been underwhelming for me so far:

1. Mediocre & repetitive lyrics. Even singles can have good lyrics
2. Yes I know she loves different genres. But why working with the mediocre ppl instead of the best guy from that genre? Example: Why Max Martin? Why not Rick Rubin?
3. Honestly, I feel like she still can't afford of losing fans. Only 3 LPs in, this one is her fourth. Very crucial point at her career. If she got things right with this era, then she can do whatever she wants. It's just too soon to 'sell-out'
