People need to realize that Adele was the exception, not the rule. Just because things worked for Adele, does not mean that's the answer for everyone else. Ballads have been nonexistent on radio for a while now for the most part. A ballad release, especially as a first single would be an era-killer no matter how good it is for Christina IMO.
Well, Wide Awake did pretty well as a ballad.
Dark Side didn't completely flop off of the earth.
And P!nk's "Try" is also gaining traction.
Wide Awake is not a ballad. People need to stop thinking low-tempo songs = ballad.
