Taylor Swift Releases Vengeful New Song — Who Is It About?
Mon, October 8, 2012 5:05pm EDT by Christopher Rogers 8 Comments
Taylor Swift debuted her new single ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ during the Oct. 8 episode of ‘Good Morning America.’ Read the lyrics and tell us who YOU think it’s about!
Let the speculation begin! Taylor Swift loves to name names in her songs, and her latest single, “I Knew You Were Trouble” even drops the name “John” — so, could it be about John Mayer? What do YOU think?
Taylor has been in high-profile romances with John, Chord Overstreet, Jake Gyllenhall and Joe Jonas in the last few years and had lesser-known flings with Cory Monteith, Mark Foster of Foster The People and Will Anderson, the lead singer in the band Parachute.
In the past, “Dear John” has trashed John Mayer, “Forever and Always” explained her relationship with Joe Jonas, while “Back To December” was an apology for Taylor Lautner.
Which person do you think “I Knew You Were Trouble” is about?
“When I was coming up with the name for this album, it was crazy because it was really simple. I wrote a song called ‘Red’ and thinking about what that means to me and all the different emotions that are written about on this album, they are all pretty much about the tumultuous, crazy, insane, semi-toxic relationships that I’ve experienced in the last two years and all those emotions spanning from intense love to intense frustration, jealous, confusion, all of that, in my mind, all those emotions are red. There is nothing beige about any of those feelings,” Taylor explained.

Should have been different but
It wasn’t different, was it
Same old story, dear john,
And so long
Should have fit like a glove
Should have fit like a ring
Like a diamond ring
A token of true love
Should have all worked out
But it didn’t
She should be here now
But she isn’t
[Chorus:]
There’s your trouble,
There’s your trouble
You keep seeing double
With the wrong one
You can’t see I love you,
You can’t see she doesn’t
But you just keep holding on
There’s your trouble
So now you’re thinking ’bout
All you’re missing how
Deep you’re sinking,
Round and round and dragging down
Why don’t you cash in your chips
Why don’t you call it a loss
Not such a big loss,
Chalk it up better luck
Could have been true love
But it wasn’t
It should all add up
But it doesn’t
[Repeat chorus]
Should have all worked out
But it didn’t
She should be here now
But she isn’t
[Repeat chorus]
