It really didn't work. The movie only had 2 jump scares and failed to create a haunting atmosphere. It relied on the fact that the little boy they cast was Ke$ha level ugly so him jumping out of the box or bushes was horrifying.
it was simple and made on a $3M budget
and him literally leading his family to death when they wanted out was great too
i hate when scary movies rely too much on tryhard jump scares because we've been conditioned to expect those and only those...hence why i don't even find scary movies nowadays scary
like in Insidious 3...the girl gets hit by a car out of nowhere and you hear a loud boom...everyone jumped but looking back...it was unnecessary
