I think it has more to do with the general perception of pop/rock being dated (which is only partly true since it's about trends in music that changes from year to year). Kelly and P!nk are the biggest examples of that genre.
I think what I'm saying is that Thankful is one of Kelly's vastly different album in sound and material (although I realize that she wasn't into it, but was forced to by her label at the time) in comparison to her other ones, except My December which had a more angst rock feel to it, than pop.
Stronger just mixed and match from her previous albums with the emphasis being on raw vocals and overall concept cohesiveness (AIEW was a mess in this). The production wasn't as top notch as Breakaway, for example. It's solid, but the album had too many fillers. Kelly's writing is fairly average, with some exceptions like BoY.
