Carrie's current tour is more successful than any Kelly tour in history and Storyteller has outsold Piece by Piece 2:1 and the gap only grows. That doesn't even account for Carrie's Platinum GH released in 2014?
Carrie's actually had longevity and consistency with her success, Kelly has been extremely hit and miss and hasn't been a major player since 2011.

So how has she eclipsed Kelly? The goal of American Idol is to find a superstar. Someone that can be successful in America, but also worldwide. Something they haven't managed to find since season one.
