You're his son and I'm assuming you've had a good relationship up until this point. If he truly lets something harmless like this destroy your relationship he isn't even worth having in your life. Once he sees how happy you are, and that you're still the same person you've always been, he should come around to it more. Don't expect him to accept it immediately, or think that because he's acting this way now that it'll always be that way. He can change.
I'd say you should just go visit your aunt and leave your dad alone, give him time by himself to absorb the information and try to talk to him about it when you get back. This type of thing can be difficult for a man to learn about his son. Him not wanting to talk about it right now doesn't mean he's not okay with it, it's just unexpected for him
Only complaint is that it's too damn hot and humid there. 
Even the traffic and Metro trains weren't as bothersome.
