REVIEW: BRITNEY SPEARS – FEMME FATALE (2011) (By Pedro Santos)
1. Till The World Ends
An amazing introduction to the album, when you listen to it you feel like you are going to party hard and if we see things clear, that’s what you going to do while you are listening to the album. At first it might sound a little to Ke$ha or whatever but after a few plays you get it, it has the Britney Spears touch that is untouchable and very hers. I love how they don’t OVERUSE the autotune here, and I love how this will most likely become the Party Anthmen Of the year.
This will surely put Britney Spears on the Pop Market again, this is Britney Spears following what’s on right now, but in her own way. Favorite Line: “If you feel it, let it happen / Keep on dancing till the world ends”
2. Hold It Against Me
The first and the epic single from “Femme Fatale”. Please forgive me if I’m Coming on too strong but this song kind of trashes “Till The World Ends”, sad to see it not having that much impact only because it doesn’t follow the rules of Generic Pop. Also the lack of promo hurt the performance but anyway! This song is Britney’s first Dubstep attempt but it’s not the only on the record, what I love the most besides the fantastic breakdown is how the song doesn’t use autotune at all, this is such an amazing song and I am very happy it became a single. It is like re-making “Shattered Glass” but in a very professional way.
One other thing I love here is how the chorus is totally different in the end of the song it is much more agressive if we can go by that, this song screams EPICNEY. Favorite Line: “Pop It like a hood / And show me how you work It out”
3. Inside Out
Did you miss Britney’s sexy and fast vocals? This song is all Britney stans that stan for “In The Zone” could ask for, the chorus is impressive and very very catchy, it will probably become the most loved track on the record. The autotune isn’t overused neither here except for the “C´MOOON” part, but it turned out very well because it sounds amazing.
The lyrics are very cute and provocative, it’s funny how she manages to mix in the same song, sexy things, cute things, dumb things, etc.
The breakdown is also awesome, I can feel a little just a little dubstep in the middle of it, love the way it goes back to the chorus after the break. Favorite Line: “I know that we probably shouldn’t do this/ Wake up in the morning feeling stupid”
4. I Wanna Go
This might become a fan favorite as well. This is such a weird, different and amazing track. It reminds me of “Blackout” kind of music. Love the pre-chorus and the chorus gives life to pretty much anyone, the originality of this song is undeniable. Britney Spears will go-o-o-o all the way to stick up to her OWN music.
Very provocative and very humoristic, the whistles on the pre-chorus are so amazing and in my opinion it is what gives the song the reputation, it is something so cute and sweet that goes along with the amazing chorus. I can see this being one of the biggest summer hits ever, the instrumental screams SUMMER and it is so radio-friendly, it could easily be one of Britney Spears’ biggest hits.
I also found out recently this is about masturbation, it is so well hidden, Britney has made us used to the hidden messages behind each song! Favorite Line: “I-I-I wanna go-o-o, all the way-ay-ay / Takin out my freak tonight”
5. How I Roll
Perhaps one of the most original song on the album and that’s why people might not like it. The song is very different from everything she has ever done. Love the end of the lines like “speakoooooow”. The instrumental is very enjoyable and it sounds like bubbles exploding.
If there’s something about Britney Spears’s music is how she sings fast in most of her songs, really really enjoy it and in this song although it’s not as fast as many other songs on the album she gives me a lot of that. This song also gives me some “Soda Pop” teas which is awesome because I don’t particularly love that song but I do love this one. One of the best songs lyrically without a doubt, great work they did. The “bambambimrabim…” is also very enjoyable.
Two last things: the last part of the fast breathing like UUH Ahhh is so cute and the way Britney says “You can be my **** tonight” in such a sweet way is amazing. Favorite Line: “Feel the earthquake / Gonna make your body shake”
6. (Drop Dead) Beautiful (feat. Sabi)
When I first heard of this I was scared I was like “Who the hell is Sabi?” but DAMN the girl WERQED IT. This song is very nasty and very hot besides being catchy as hell. I believe it is the most urban song on the entire album, it has a dark feeling attatched it and the sexyness is just impressive.
The way Britney screams “SABI!” makes me wanna die because I just love it way too much.
The second part of the song gave me “Peacock” lyrics kind of teas due to the “BIG”, “Makes a big girl cry”… I always laugh with Sabi’s laugh and is it just me or Sabi who doesn’t even need to sing uses more autotune than Britney that actually sings? Oh Well ahaha. This is also one of the fiercest songs on the CD.
This would be a big hit without any doubt, it could be the “Outrageous” we never had.
One last thing love the ending beat. Favorite Line: “Whoever said that beauty’s on the inside is a liar / ‘Cause, what I’m looking at right now / Would make a big girl cry”
7. Seal It With a Kiss
One more sexy song with a very catchy “Uuuuhuuuh”. I love Britney’s vocals and principally the big dubstep influence on the song. The chorus is very catchy and very sexual.
From what I read so far this might become one of the fans favorite, maybe because the vocals kind of reminds us of old Britney and the instrumental is so innovative with an amazing breakdown. This is a very well produced song and if I imagined some video for this it would be a very high fashion.
The “UuuhUuuh” part reminds me of a Nicki Minaj’s song that covered a old one and I believe everyone will remind of this song for the “UuuhUuuh”, very characteristic!
I love the repetitive “Say You’re Just a Friend I’m A Little Liar” and principally when the breakdown comes and everything is kind of quiet, and the tone of her voice… damn, PERFECT. Favorite Line:: “Say you're just a friend, I'm a little liar”
8. Big Fat Bass (feat. Will.I.Am)
Since I knew Will I Am would be on the album I got VERY excited but I never expected a song like this, since Black Eyed Peas last album was beyond disappointing. This song is HOT and beyond original for a Will production, they mix some classical kind of instruments with piano and even some electrodark.
The fact that there isn’t much autotune in the song surprises me a LOT, because we all know Will don’t we? Eheheh
This one is a very sexual song that reminds me of the 69 position due to the “I can be your treble baby you can be my bass”, yeah you dirty Britney! This song also allows us to check Britney’s versatile voice and how she can go from a sweet voice to a crazy voice when she says “THE BASS IS GETTING BIGGAER”.
The chorus is very repetitive but that’s fine because it might stick in my head forever, Will’s rap is very impressive as well and I love the Britney intervention before it all starts. One of the most reasons I was excited to hear it in full was for the epic ending “THE FEMME FATAAAAAALE” which makes me go crazy! Favorite Line: “It's getting bigger, the bass is getting bigger”
9. Troube For Me
A very party song with some naughty business mixed. I love the beginning of the song with that characteristic instrumental that appears in the middle of the song as well.
This is one of the best songs vocally without much voice effects, it makes you wanna get up and dance and then that amazing pre-chorus and chorus makes you go up someone and say it “Me and you were a disaster…” and flirt with that person until the “Ohh ahaah Ooh” part that is the part you go away and go back to your friends.
I believe this is going to be the most underrated song on the entire album but unfourtunately it isn’t the biggest standout, still one more provocative song. Favorite Line: “Me and you burn disaster / And you're only a danger to me”
10. Trip To Your Heart
I would like to define this song as “Heaven On Earth” meets “Unusual You”, it’s a very emotional and sentimental song and the excessive autotune adds a little more sweetness to it.
The chorus is beautiful with those little “Pling Pling” with the “uuuuhhuuuuhhuuuh”, this is so sweet and probably what comes closest to a ballad on this album, probably the only song that is actually about a guy Britney loves and doesn’t only want sex or party.
Lyrically this is also a standout, but from what I see this is going to be a very underrated song, that part of the “Trip to your tongue… Trip to your hair …” is so “Heaven On Earth” seriously, Britney wanting to give all of us the epicness she gave us back in 2007.
If there is a word to describe this song is “Sweet”. Favorite Line: “Like how you whisper in my ear / Your breath like ghost that disappear”
11. Gasoline
Oh My Godney. This song is SEX. It has that fire in the lyrics, voice, orgasms and in the instrumental that gives you that summer vibe. We all know how sexy is Britney Spears’voice, now with this kind of music it surely gives you those sweaty “Slave 4 U” teas if you start picturing what this is about.
It is probably the most explicit song on the album that goes direct to the business, it’s also very catchy and I love that part of the instrumental that sounds like two metals are going against eachother.
Britney’s “You set me on fiiiire” gives me “Touch Of My Hand” “aaah” vibes as well. I also can’t forget to mention Britney’s sexy talking moments with the “Oh Boy What You did to me” and the multiple orgasms.
If sexy can be defined in songs this is what should be used. Favorite Line: “When the music is up and the sun goes down / Lightning strikes and I'm on the ground / Only one that I want around”
12. Criminal
This is undeniably the best song vocally, I missed this Britney tune, so sweet and without those effects on her voice. The lyrics are smart and the song give me dark vibes. Her voice in the chorus gives me “Amnesia” teas which is good because I love that voice.
The song is probably the saddest song on the entire album but still can’t be considered a ballad, it is a little fast for that, but still very sad. I am glad to see the fans are loving this and I believe that is because of Britney’s clean voice with the sentimental lyrics of a sad love story.
It is a very original song and the flute on the song gives me so much life, it is something I never pictured Britney Spears doing. In the end of the day it will probably be my favorite song on “Femme Fatale”.
The song is an amazing ending to the album and very smart because when it ends I don’t know you are kind of sad because Britney is in love with a criminal and not with you so you need to be happier so you start listening the album again with “Till The World Ends” ahahah! Favorite Line: “But, mama, I'm in love with a criminal / And this type of love isn't rational, it's physical”
CONCLUSION
First of all I'd like to say the fact that I didn't put rates from 1/10 is because I would give them all a 10.
This album is all that Britney Spears fans could have asked for, it’s the “Blackout” we all wanted, the “Blackout” that is actually going to sell better and have a better promotion. We can see a huge evolution from “Circus”, not only lyrically but vocally and vocally it is better than “In The Zone” and “Blackout”, I appreciate Britney’s clean voice so much and I couldn’t be happier they didn’t overuse the autotune in most of the songs seriously.
When Britney Spears said she put all of her own in this album she wasn’t lying, we can feel it, we can feel this was those kind of albums that took the time to be done because they wanted a good job to be done, not in a rush or anything.
We can define it as an electronic, dark and pop album that mixes all together and gives us this masterpieces.
There aren’t bad, weak or ok songs they are all amazing in their own ways, some will be more loved, some won’t be that loved but in the end of the day all the songs are masterpieces and I couldn’t be more proud of stanning for this woman that never disappoints on delivering albums. Love You Britney.
NOTE: The "Favorite Line" and stuff will eventually change in time.
