I just looked at the latest recap and WTF? TRL used to be all full of pop and pop/rock. Now it's like taken over with rap/hip-hop.

Hey it's fine like that. That was never the problem. The problem is the chart format. So basically any song that is in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 is on the top 10 of TRL. At least back in August they counted the votes so any video could debut as long as it got enough votes. What I used to like about TRL is how they could end up promoting a new artist's career just by having their video voted it on there. Or a flop single can end up being promoted by it's video and would have it get on the countdown. So then people start to notice it, like it and then even request that single to radio stations as well.

but its not like anyone can be surprised that there is a lot of hip-hop and rap instead of pop. TRL came on the air in a time when poppy music, like BSB, NSYNC, etc., were heading towards their golden age. As that declined in popularity in the early 2000's, "snap" rap music rose into the limelight and now is in full swing. Like the 2 music movements before it, i predict this strain of music will decline in popularity much like boy bands did and will ultimately fade away 2 or 3 years from now.

At the old format, voters can make history and also make unfamous singers to famous because of the plays they get from voters. Many new artists became popular because of TRL

But now, only the billboard has that power. Too bad for the small players

No it won't. "snap" rap music I just don't think will die because T-Pain is going to be around for another 10 years I'm guessing

Not to mention there was a reason why the boy bands died. It was getting sickening it's just as sickening as disney artists to me. It's good for R&B and Hip Hop to rule. But again it's the chart format. But hip hop is such a huge part of pop culture so quit hating.

um...who said i was hating on hip-hop? i think you need to recheck what i said. GOOD hip-hop is not restricted to snap rap.

also, look around at the current state. i'm not saying that it's bad. I'm saying that we're getting pretty saturated in that genre.
