Traveller is pretty great though, especially coming from a country male in 2015...

I didn't really like the Alabama Shakes album when I gave it a listen.
Must be an acquired taste kinda record.

I listened to a few Locrian and Protomartyr tracks and they were really good Especially the former, just wish it had more vocals, as I'm not always in a mood for instrumental compositions.

Listen to the album it's good! Don't Wanna Fight is an anthem. I like how you have Fight Song on your countdown and I have Don't Wanna Fight. It's parrallelism or a metaphor or something.

The Beatles sound pretty psychedelic. Listen to Strawberry Fiedls or Tomorrow Never Knows. I agree with you agreeing

I liked Tame impala's album as well, I just needed more time with it/more listens I think.

Also I forgot Kanye had that song rip his releases this year have been all over the place.

The TI album was solid. It does tame some time to sink in.

The Shakes album is a little bit of a grower. I'd say it's been talked up a little too much, but it is good.

Currents is pretty great as an album. I wish I wasn't hating on Tame Impala so much when it came out and came around on them earlier.

Really?! That's so cool that you listened and liked them. I really really really really like the Locrian album. The lack of non-screamed vocals hurt the Locrian album's playability, but it's great. You seem surprised though! Would I let you down? Please don't answer that

I think if you like the songs you've heard from TI and AS, you would like the albums if you tried them out. The singles are pretty much what you would expect the albums to sound like.

31: Vince Staples (feat. Jhené Aiko & DJ Dahi)


I forget exactly how I came across Summertime '06. I know I had been meaning to check out Vince for awhile, so it can't have been too long after the album dropped. Anyway, Lemme Know was the immediate stand-out of the album to me. It's a song about how Vince has become addicted to a girl, that Jhené Aiko plays the part of. It was that primal beat of the song that hooked me, over any of the lyrics, though. The beat on first listen was completely hypnotizing and it also appropriately reflects the purpose of the song; the beat is as intoxicating and primal as the sex Vince is hooked on. Jhené gets the last word her, comparing herself and her love to dope. The next song on the album? Dopeman. About selling dope and addiction to survive. First Vince hits you with the relatable love as a drug angle, then he takes advantage of that and hits you with the more destructive and unfortunately, stronger at times, love for drugs. Deep stuff.

The kind of dreamy, subtly melancholic song that keeps you warm and relaxed on a rainy day and helps you take on those rainy days as they come.

29: Disclosure (feat. Gregory Porter) - Holding On


The highlight of Caracal. The opening "HOOOLLLLLLLDDDDD" that seems to last forever, constantly reflected upon itself like a hall of mirrors, is a bit of a false start. That opening note gives way to Gregory Porter's proper to the song, which is the song's strength. Unlike most dance songs, the focus here shouldn't be on the beat, it should be on Porter's vocals: sonorous, warm and assured, they are joyful and strong and optimistically defiant to the point that the backing music (though thoroughly danceable) is all but unnecessary.

28: Raury - Seven Suns

Raury has an odd style: think one-third soundtrack to Indian Jones, one-third southern hip-hop, one-third learned Indie rock inspired by Prince. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Seven Suns is him getting it right, sounding like an optimist's version of Destroyer's stunning Bay Of Pigs. Seven Suns is as warm as basking in the sun's glow, eventually erupting into a showering guitar solo. It's slightly corny lyrically, focusing on how we are all unique in the world and should celebrate our individuality, but makes up for that with intent and sound. .

27: Lana Del Rey - High By The Beach

"Loving you is hard, being here is harder / You take the wheel / I don't wanna do this anymore, it's so surreal / I can't survive if this is all that's real." Begins the dreamy first verse to Hymn By The Beach. Waves crash in the background, Lana sounds far away, detached, daydreaming. Then comes the chorus and that ghostly sci-fi trap beat. Who doesn't want to get away from it all and just get away, to the beach, to the country, wherever when life becomes overwhelming. Lana takes that feeling and turns it into an anthem. "All I wanna do is get high by the beach..." I relate and I don't even smoke.

That really long intro-hold on Holding On adds definition to the song title it seems.

Thanks! Yeah, Lemme Know might not be the most meaningful song on the album, but it's still enjoyable. It's my most played off the album, but Norf Norf is coming for it.
