I'm on a forum that allows you to like other people's posts and what it turned into was the elite 10 users or so (it's a small forum) have more likes than their post count where everyone else has almost none.
There's a reputation system implemented on the beta right now. It's one of the main features under discussion of whether it should be altered or kept at all after launch. Pory and I were the only ones in favor of it in some way but I'd really like to know your thoughts as well.

There used to be a reputation system on another forum I used to go on - that forum was FAR less messy than ATRL is, and yet the system didn't work out and had to be removed. I really can't see it working on this forum, especially with all of the stan wars.

I was in a forum where they have/had that thing about Karma, it was a fight everyday because some people gave bad karma to the ones they don't like or the ones they hate, it was a mess

If this is what it entails, then I am 100% for it! People need to STOP with the quoting a post just to add a . to get their post counts up. Either add something to the statement, or upvote it and move along.
This was the reason I was on favor of the "Like" system.
I'm against the reputation system. Although it could function as a useful tool to identify knowledgeable members with regards to a specific topic and weed out trolls, it could easily be abused so as to "target" a specific member that a group of members do not like.
I feel like the intense stanbase rivalries would totally corrupt the whole thing.

A like only system works better. People can still like shade/messy posts but at least that removes personal vendetta problems and still stops everyone responding to posts with a full stop or single smiley.
I personally think the upvote/downvote system will be used to circumvent the "quoting warned post" rule and just be another reason for members to act on their petty fueds. ATRL just isn't mature enough for it to be used the correct way.
It won't work out here sis, people are gonna make jokes about that and make fun of others for their "reputation"
I don't like the reputation system at all but I'm more in favor of simple like system (no dislikes) in regards to a silent acknowledgement convenience.
Highly doubt it'll be implemented at all but just to gauge further opinions~

Adding a limit to how many times a day you can upvote someone (or at all), imo, would be a good way to assure people don't grief people into a negative reputation, or upvoting people just because people asked for upvotes...however, what arbitrary number would you choose? What would be a good balance between "enough to abuse" and "not enough to be worthwhile"?
I think if there was a way to detect "grief" downvotes, and make it a warnable offense, then more people would be here for it.
