Smileys. Here's a new take: get contestants to make one of the unpopular smileys get some traction a la how Mimi did " " I'm sure there's some hidden gems in there.

I agree.
Although the smiley challenge...
I kind of wish Top Member was more like a
school for ATRL in terms of learning new things and
how to apply them. So it would be amazing (at the same time it would probably scare some people away) if the people had to create their own smiley.
Like you said, they have to make their gif smash.
It should all be about actual success. It would also be great if Matty could really use the 'Quick Guide' challenge winner's entry (even if it needs to be worked out - but that is easy). Matty could also tell explicitly what has to be in the guide instead leaving it rather abstract. That way more good entries would be guaranteed.
Edit:
I also want the guest judges to be actual experts in their assigned challenge so they can serve as mentors for questions and help.
Whenever the season is finished, the final five (at least) should be able to say:
Okay, I know everything about ATRL now. I know how to make gifs and use them effectively, I know how to create a smiley and use it effectively. I know all the rules. I know MYSELF (most importantly) and my brand on this forum.
