Thanks for all the comments everyone! This feels like it's been going on forever but we're almost done, five more today and then i'll maybe do the top ten all at once tomorrow or something.

James Blake - Overgrown
Released - April 15, 2013



This album is a stunning atmospheric piece of perfection. The songs all feel so grand and monumental and the production is flawless. His vocals just add to that atmospheric feel and they bring a lot of dimension to the songs. I guess its kinda R&B inspired but I'd say its much superior to the PR&B stuff.

Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city

As far as Hip Hop goes, this album literally blew me away. Stunningly crafted, brilliant lyrics, Kendrick is a genius! Its very honest and his way of storytelling is so genuine its like getting a look inside the head of a person. He deals with some of his experiences growing up but they're supplemented by hip hop feel-good jams and the whole thing is just a fulfilling experience.

Lorde - Pure Heroine
Released - September 27, 2013



I've seen/heard a lot of people call this album overrated but I DO NOT AGREE. Its underrated if anything. She's writing well beyond her years and the maturity of these lyrics is astonishing. There are tons of songs that analyze society from a teenager's perspective but hold true for people beyond that age too. On the flipside, there are a lot of great personal moments too that take a look at teenage angst with a more mature, dignified position. Its short, but each song punches so hard.

Anyways, love both of those albums but I don't care for James Blake. His music has kinda grown on me but not enough to say I enjoy it.

I had the same thing with 2013 when Ms. Bey released her album when I was beginning my list. She would have been #1 if I had more time.

Taylor Swift - 1989
Released - October 27, 2014



FULL POP.

Not going to lie hearing that sent a chill down my spine. Would it sound like "22" over and over again? Is she going to flop? I was gladly proven wrong the second I heard those horns on Shake It Off and I was fully sold the second I heard the ANTHEM "Out Of The Woods". She held the '80s synth pop theme well - not overdoing it but keeping it subtle enough that you can tell her intentions.

The Katy comparisons make me want to throw things across the room. Taylor is still keeping her songwriting perks just doing it differently. The songs are well written, cleverly produced and well sung! They have meaning! Poor Katy/others!

No Spotify again but you all saw me go crazy with the 1989 tracks several pages back.

Did I even finish listening to Overgrown fully? I don't even remember lol but I love a few tracks no mad at its placement.
GKMC is amazing.
Pure Heroin hasn't aged well with me but still good - I only listen to Tennis God and White Teeth Teens.

St. Vincent - St. Vincent
Released - February 24, 2014



Placed this high because of what I expect the album will be down the road - a classic. Its a brilliant album to self-title and has tons of really brilliant techniques.

I like the fact that its wholly pop but its pop done differently. Great elements of hectic baroque pop, '80s influenced songs, quintessential St. Vincent tracks and even power ballads? Beautiful.





6 tracks because there are too many good ones.

An incredible album filled with brilliantly crafted dance/house songs. There are lots of great collaborations with some of the UK's finest artists and there's an overall diversity that still feels very unified. Its a great album to listen to all the way through or to pick out a few tracks because they're all pretty much on the same level.
