When I think about it, Fake Plastic Trees is also my fave single. I dont think its because of the song itself, but more for what it means to me.
Through this song, I discovered not one, but two great rock acts which made me to appreciate music differently - Radiohead and Jeff Buckley. I didnt understand a single word when I first heard this song in a radio, it just left me mesmerized by its beauty. This song is a proof of how can the power of one gig/night change someones view on music and career completelly. Fake Plastic Trees is in my eyes important turning point for Radiohead and Thom as a singer and also a beautiful tribute/bow to immensely talented musician who passed away way too soon, so it will always feel bitter-sweet to me /rant.

#21 - Optimistic

"Optimistic" is the first Kid A track to leave. It was a promotional single in America, and technically the only "single" from the album. The track was a top 10 hit in the Modern Rock charts. It is the song on Kid A that is most like Radiohead's 1990s material. The line "try the best you can" is what Thom Yorke's girlfriend said about creating a follow up to OK Computer.
I'm really sad this couldn't make the top 20. It's enchanting and one of their finest lyrical moments. It feels so at home in Kid A even if it is stylistically different from basically everything else. 9.4

I always say this in the rate, I'm a new Radiohead listener. I think their albums have been with me for months now but I have never had the chance to listen to them. I only had the chance to listen to Kid A when I downloaded it. So when this rate came about, it was my time to at least listen to their singles. So that was the first time I listened to their singles. I based my rates with 1 listen and Fake Plastic Trees was one of the three 10's I gave. So it really impacted me in a way to give it a 10 with one listen. It's really a nice song. I'm not that familiar about Radiohead but I'm now more interested in listening to their whole discography now and good to know we share the same thoughts with the song.

"Nude" is the second In Rainbows single in a row to be eliminated. It is their second most successful song in the Billboard Hot 100 after "Creep." The song has existed since 1997, but was only performed live most of the time. Radiohead finally decided it belonged on an album.

I'm really surprised this track got so far. It's very soothing, and a lot less exciting than most of the tracks in the top 15. However, it is a gorgeous song, so I'm kinda glad it made it this far. Still, it's not one of my favorites. 7.3

"Just" is another one of the many The Bends singles to leave. The song was a competition between Thom Yorke and guitarist Jonny Greenwood. They both tried to see who could put the most chords in the song. The songs guitar solo is renowned, the song was listed as the 34th best indie anthem by NME.

This is one of my favorite The Bends tracks. It's a shame to see it leave before a couple songs I prefer it too. I really love the guitar solo and the intense feel the song has. 9.2
