Where I'd differ a bit is I think the opening scene of her walking is her returning to the guy after she learned how to love herself (the cornfield scenes). I think the non-linear presentation is what's making it harder to get a clear read on how it all goes together.

Love the hypothetical plot you posted, definitely one of the more plausible. After watching it twice, i chalked it up to be a story about a person (gaga) born completely out of the love from another (the nude guy). Whether mermaid or Frankenstein there seemed to be an underlying process of creation and transformation on his part, resulting in her having an insatiable lust for him, her lover-father-mad scientist-creator. I also thought the scenes where she's wearing black with the metal arm was a representation of her resulting state, a fused existence as half human, and half a product of love, his love.
One thing i definitely don't notice is the part of the video where she's presented a path to choose between destinies, as she mentioned being part of the plot.
