Yeah. It's not that I hate the song. I actually somewhat like it. But I just think that it isn't all that great. Don't get me wrong, OSD wasn't even one of Mariah's best songs. It was pretty "meh" for her.
But yeah. I just don't get the appeal / hype behind the song and I get depressed thinking about people liking this song that much. To see it lead on all formats so intensely gets me bitter. The lyrics are very tragic and the scene they are supposed to be painting is poorly thought-out. The drop is very underwhelming for EDM's standards, and not melodic enough / too repetitive for Pop's standards.
I didn't care when the song reached 3 weeks at #1, or 5, etc.. It's the fact that it's geared to be the biggest hit of the decade that is kinda bothersome to me. It's so underwhelming in every aspect. Roses and DLMD were far better and I probably wouldn't be writing this messay if it were them that were looking to take the crown.
Meanwhile they are neck and neck on digital...
