I can't at this how much did Jay-Z payed to be a part of the list?

2. He is one of the most influential rappers of all time.
3. He is very respected in his genre, probably more than any other rap lyricist.

Yeah, definitely. It's not throwing shade to say that death changes the critical appraisal of an artist. It ALWAYS does. MJ just happens to be the most recent/most high-profile example of this.
Madonna will definitely be more respected when she dies. It seems like a lot of people dismiss her as being a no-talent ***** with fluff music (not necessarily music critics, but the general public).

She persevered through decade after decade of people (especially her peers) saying she was a talentless *****. 10 years into her career she was in the middle of the Erotica era and everybody thought she was nasty and her career was finished. Now she's the most respected woman in the industry. It's almost as if the general public ultimately decides who will be respected in the long run. I wonder if that means...

Obviously. She was part of a sexual revolution, she fought agaisnt the establishment, and she was ALWAYS in charge... sooner or later, people appreciate that.

Well... that's her "problem" with younger people. Especially in the US. And it's not gonna change.
Jay-Z deserves to be on the list, but I find it weird that he is above some other Hip Hop heavy-hitters. He didn't really "change the game." But I guess I can see why he is so high. I just would have had him around #60 something.

lol true. I have some huge problems with it, but ultimately Marvin, Stevie, and Queen are in the top 20 and MJ is in the top 5, so I can't say it's completely horrible.
But these topics are always going to be popular, anyway, because people are obsessed with lists.
