When doctor’s orders led to the cancellation of Lady Gaga's “Born This Way Ball” tour yesterday, producers Live Nation Global Touring immediately began the formidable task of shutting down one of the most successful pop tours ever.
Through Jan. 17, the “BTWB” tour had grossed $168.2 million and moved 1.6 million tickets to 85 shows, according to Billboard Boxscore, with Asia, Europe, and South American legs already completed in 2012. The North American leg, which was to wrap the tour and was almost completely sold out, would have likely put the tour at more than $200 million gross, easily in the top 20 tours of all time and probably in the top 15.

That's 9000 tickets refunded per show. And most of the venue/arena capacities are as follows:
BOK Center 17,096
Greensboro Coliseum Complex 21,273
American Airlines Center 18,532
Tampa Bay Times Forum 19,204
Philips Arena 17,624
Bridgestone Arena 17,113
TD Garden 17,565
Verizon Center 18,398
Madison Square Garden 18,200
Billboard indeed spilled the tea and clocked her.
Tour was obviously flopping on some level.

All those capacities are so freaking fake. Since when does MSG hold over 18k people or Tampa Bay Forum over 19k? Seriously? Gaga's capacities are around 13k for MSG and 14-15k for Tampa. You can't put people behind the stage at Gaga's show, because she got a massive castle background and let's not forget about the Monster Pit, so the capacities are MUCH lower. Get informed first before posting some Wikipedia concert stats about those venues.

So since she's cancelling does she face some legal action? This is what happened when Michael passed away and cancelled 'This Is It'.
Quote:
Prior to Jackson's death, Allgood Entertainment sued the entertainer for $40 million, claiming that he had breached an exclusivity agreement with them by agreeing to the This Is It concerts, the case was later dismissed.
|
I doubt that anyone would successfully be able to win the case, but it is a possibility that someone could sue.

For those who were looking forward to seeing Gaga perform at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia at two sold out shows next week, XFinity Live! Philadelphia, the dining and entertainment district located next to the Wells Fargo Center, will host a free screening of a pre-recorded Lady Gaga full-concert performance on a 32-foot, high-definition screen on February 19. Admission is free and open to the public.

Chicago, New York City and Boston shows, for instance, were all sold out too.
Oh, and very accurate capacities. If you don't know, different shows = different venue arrangements = different numbers of tickets put on sale.

"It's such a huge disappointment," says Alipa Patel, marketing and communications manager for Copps Coliseum, where Gaga canceled this weekend's show in Hamilton, Ontario. "It's pretty marquee for a city like Hamilton to get a Lady Gaga. We've had a lot of big names come through, like Bruce Springsteen and Elton John, but with Lady Gaga being so current, it was really something that was going to put us on the map."

When you have losers on a pop music forum trying to prove an "almost completely sold out" tour was cancelled due to low ticket sales I'm sure worse cases of dementia can be seen in real life.

I don't doubt that the tour was a successful story and it was almost sold out.
But one point, with the Scalpers (or like Justin Bieber when he himself sells to the second market) we can definitley not know if a concert is sold out.
A new messure would be the worth of one ticket at the second market.
for the poster #589: I'm sure many of the venues can increase their capacity if the demand is there.
just by one look

From Wiki Germany: Kapazität 20.000 (maximal) for concerts
To be honest, the music industry is in the gutter , but they try to sell it to us as s success story and the fans do likely believe it.
