I saw We Bought A Zoo which makes you roll your eyes at the over the top corniness...but it still gets you by the end. It's a big crowd-pleaser.

Yeah but that had 2 holidays on its opening weekend (Valentine's Day and President's Day) and it didn't open in December when opening weekends are usually low, but legs are long.

December (before the holidays) is always a slow time at the movies. Once the holidays kick in, movies explode. The biggest December opening weekend is I AM LEGEND at $77M, which is pretty low. Even AVATAR opening was called disappointing by some before the explosion.

Re Young Adult: For a movie directed by Jason Reitman, written by Diablo Cody and starring Charlize Theron, 40k/screen on only 8 screens is a little disappointing. If those names didn't translate to huge numbers in arthouses, they definitely won't help when it expands to 1000 screens on Dec 16. Charlize's character is so unlikable. Mainstream audiences will hate her.

I wonder if BD will get new life with the holidays. I expect Sherlock to do well.
