Kii I'd honestly rather have quality entries with some risk than basic **** every year. Look at Ukraine. They sent that wonderful alternative rock song by Alyoska in 2010 and went top 10. In 2013 they sent Zlata Ognevich with an unusual song and came 3rd. And let's not talk about Ani Lorak's flawless choreography and pitch-perfect vocals in 2008. And finally, the winner of 2016 Jamala, who is the complete opposite from generic.
Sweden needs to step up its game and send someone who's not just a mere singer (usually barely that - Eric Saade, Anna Bergendahl and Charlotte Perrelli's vocals are embarrassing). They need an ARTIST like, I don't know, Caroline af Ugglas or Veronica Maggio (the latter won't even ever consider the Eurovision tho d).

If you are talking about the songs only you don't get to praise Shady Lady, since it is basic af. Yeah she was amazing and I love the song but it was basic, hence why you omitted to talk about her song I guess.
Sweden doesn't need to step up anything, they should keep doing what they are doing since it is working. Why try to fix something that ain't broke? If they somehow stay in the semi once again they'd go in a different way
