I fell in love with this on first attempt. It's so consistent sonically that you can
listen to it in "one breath". It simply flows from start to finish. It's so punchy,
with so much hollering, hooting, plucking and strumming. The harmonies
are everything, I can't stress that enough. It's so explosive. Even the quiet
numbers suddenly explode with gunfire out of nowhere. The dramatic
build ups, the sudden drops followed by hymn-like harmonies is
what makes the record so lively, enticing and keep the listener
entertained. The vocals, the clawhammer banjo and the
powerful lyrics are just an icing on the cake.

One word to describe this: beautiful. Most of the songs are single worthy.
Very strong album (although there are 2-3 weak songs). A lot of people
find it depressing for some reason; I find it beautiful. It doesn't put
me in a bad mood whatsoever. Even the songs like Dark Paradise
are stunningly sensual and haunting. Love her voice, the tingling
production and just the general atmosphere. This album slayed
the first half of 2012 for me and will remain a staple for years.

I never use the word "art" to describe music, but this album is an honest
piece of art, a work of a young man with mordant wisdom way beyond
his years. A truly gifted songwriter, putting all of his contemporaries to
shame with his ardent, passionate and intelligent writing abilities. The
production is out of this world, sparse yet stunning. And his voice, so
full of emotion. His ability to shift between singing and dream talking
is captivating. He hardly ever cares about traditional song structures
on this album, which makes the album quite hard to get into for the
lack of repeating hooks on more than half of the record. But before
you can familiarize yourself with the record with repeated listens,
the amazing songwriting finds its way out into your mind. Those
memorable catchphrases simply stick in your head long after
you listened to them. And this striking abilitiy to fill standard
verses with those stunning catchphrases is what makes the
lack of catchy hooks negligible. In your average Katy Perry
or Rihanna song, you have a random/boring verse which is
there only to warm it up for the big catchy chorus without
any substance. On Channel Orange, every single verse
is a standalone masterpiece which carries the songs
on its own. His storytelling is brilliant, his themes are
touching. He glances effortlessly through soul, funk
and R&B without breaking the mood of the album
at any point. This album is a masterpiece, but
not only that. It is the type of quality music like
that of Sade, which will never grow old no
matter how many years will go by.
Every song is literally a 10/10
with no fillers whatsoever.
Heavenly with stunning production and vocals. The jungle-ish beat adds
uniqueness. Amazing from start to finish. The drop is probably the best
part of the song. It's like the speakers went under water for a moment
and let Solange's voice shine. And the ending is simply brilliant.
♦
The most touching song of the year. The emotion in this is unrivaled.
He doesn't say much, yet he says a lot. The falsettos are simply
stunning and the bridge is simply everything. The amount of
emotion he conveys with his voice during it is out of this
world. And that fact that it's so personal only adds to
its charm. I really hope this wins Record Of The
Year, but I think it will go to Gotye on pretty
fair grounds. Either way, it deserves
all the acclaim it got

The anthem of the year. The harmonies... The harmonies...The harmonies...
They are all over this song and they blend so well with the instrumental.
The instrumental on its own is like an unending journey on a highway
which was captured very well by its lyrics video. The chorus is styled
differently during each of its three appearances and the extra new
chorus after the bridge is so anthemic like the pre-chorus itself.

The break-up song of the year. Man, this song is the definition of stunning.
It simply gets me every time. The minimalistic production which seems
to be building up onto something, but never really does, leaving you all
pumped up throughout the whole song. The rolling drum, the soft and
scarce guitar notes, the perfect falsetto: everything is so gentle, yet so
powerful. And just when you thought it reached the climax after the
bridge, another, more powerful bridge kicks in and takes you even
higher and then continues with a soothing chorus to a sad
realization that "It's over". Usher's delivery is everything.
Only he could do this song justice and he did.

1
one.
number
one of 2012.
my fave song of
2012. Frank Ocean.
Pyramids. This beats
everything else on my list
this year. This song is simply
unbelievable. It's a staggering 10
minutes long, but it's so good that I
can never get enough of it in that time
period and time simple flies. It's a 3 part
song, but the same theme runs throughout
all of it. Part 1 is pretty assertive with thumping
synths after the chorus which are just an ear candy
on their own. An emotional chorus which only builds
up in power and emotion as Part 1 progresses. Then an
interlude kicks in as the Part 2 slowly finds its way into the
song. It's an immediate shift from a progressive thumper to a
slow and sensual as well as sexual jam. The entrancing & tingling
production is mindblowing and his voice effortlessly glancing though
it is like a kill switch making you lose yourself in it completely. The verses
and the lyrics is simply everything. His songwriting is mindblwing on its own.
As Part 2 comes to an end, a 1 min+ electronic guitar section by John Mayer kicks in
putting an end to this adventurous journey to the desert. Part 1 and Part 2 is like a total
eargasm, with Part 3 as a soothing remedy to make sure you don't leave completely out of
your mind. Best song of 2012 hands down. A true work of art. The definition of a Masterpiece
Damn, this is just terrible. Such a steep decline from Call Me Maybe.
Basic ass melody, basic as **** chorus, basic lyrics. Trash.
♦
Same here. As basic as they come.
♦
Just a terrible "band". Nothing to add.
♦
Anything this guy touched turns into..... well, not gold, but similar colour.
Even Sia's part (which normally saves songs like this) is basic as ****.
♦
I love Enrique to death, but ever since the success of I Like It he's been
going more and more generic and this is just unbearably generic.
Bring back the latin flavour, Enrique, stop this nonsense.
♦
This song is just................... broken. Broken beat, broken melody, nothing
fits together, not to mention the terrible lyrics and the off key vocals.
♦
This is just trash, just like everything about Cher Lloyd. The song is
annoying and those ghastly growls only make it worse.
(runs for cover and prays Ace doesn't see this)
♦
Just like with Flo Rida, everything Pitbul touches turns into "not gold" too.
Unfortunately for J.Lo, On The Floor became a massive hit thanks to the
Lambada sample. This, on the other hand, is just terrible. Basic basic
chorus, basic verses and an annoying glittery melody after the chorus.
♦
Oh dear. From being a carbon copy of WFL to absolutely disgraceful
lyrics, this is just horrendous. Not sure how to Tulisa ever happened.

This should be tought in schools under "How to make a Basic Song 101".
Everything about this is utterly generic and basic. It's like they thought
"Lets add these oh-oh-oh's here to make it even more generic". The
definition of disposable trash. An utter disgrace. Wish there was
a function to un-listen certain songs. This would be #1 in line.
Frank Ocean slaying Pyramids is so good, well deserved #1
Born to Die... what an epic album, there isn't a bad song on that album I really like "I Will Wait", but need to listen to their album in full
Both of us have Born to Die as our #2 albums of the year
It was so close to be #'1 and for me, it IS the #1 album of the
year overrall .. It's just sounds so different, beautiful, and
haunting. Her voice is very melodious and her lyrics
are genius. This album is like an album fallen from
the sky, and it just put you in a very calm state of
mind.
Have listened to only half of Channel Orange
But what I heard sounds pretty good, I just need to
listen more.
The intro of Losing You is so good, and it instantly pulls you in.
'Heavenly' is the right word, just like you said, and her whole
EP is good. I wish her sibling could learn from her.
Thinking Bout You is cool too. And I believe that I listened to
this song before you .. I remember knowing this
song since long ago, because I normally listen to all
songs on Hot100.
I Will Wait irritates me
Climax is not bad. I just prefer Lemme See and Scream.
How did he flop doe.
I like how you have structured the Pyramid Good
song as well .. I have like 6 spins of the song, and I like
its format. It just takes you from one place to another.
Catch My Breath is awesome
The only thing that bothers me about Dark Side is that
it's too basic. Nothing new here - nothing new with he sound or message.
But ye, Catch My Breath is nice :3
You are right about One Direction. Although I find some of
their songs catchy, I just get annoyed by them. So generic,
and I get bored.
So you include Wild Ones and not Whistle?
Whistle which is the his worst single, or one of the worst singles
of all time okay.
Dance Again and Want U Back are actually very catchy and
I have bopped to them so much last year
But I do agree, they are not great songs by any means.
It's just that I was hooked by their catchiness..
Dem **** fun, bew
Good Time is a decent pop song. How can you put this
at #1 while Gangnam Style is on your Best Of. Bye.

It's been a pleasure checking your countdown bew, despite
of your bashing of certain cute, innocent artist who didn't
deserve it
