No, honey. Madonna has 30 years+ career of strong album sales, so it's understandable when she doesn't sell as much anymore, because, simply, the times have changed and most of the album buying GP have moved to somebody newer.
And concerning Pink and Rihanna, they're not really enormous album sellers in the US either. Pink is an album selling force when you include her WW sales, but her US sales are just okay. And let's not talk about Rihanna....Anyway, both of them, Pink and Rih I mean, debuted with around the same sales and sold ~1.6 million and 1.1 million respectively, so they're not really huge album sellers in the US either.

lol you don't want us to get into Katy's "music". She's pathetic and the worst "artist" the industry has seen in a long, long time. She and her "music" are half a step above the ARK music factory.

You know some possible album buyers like to listen to the album before they buy it. Katy's "growth album" is sooooooo bad that the longetivity is out of the question... She better go back to th studio and deliver a better album or else I foresee a "teenage nightmare" for the future of her career!

Regardless about how long Madonna has been in the industry. You stated that " first week sales are the factor that truly measures an established artist's selling power and the demand for them" Simple logic says Madonna is more popular according to what you said.

I'm actually a big fan of Katy since "I Kissed A Girl", so I have the right to be here. The real question is: what are you (yes Y.O.U.) doing in our treads? No answer? Well...

This album debuted around the same #s & had incredible longevity due to her broad appeal & diverse airplay/exposure (AC, pop, rock, etc). Katy will probably not have quite the longevity (because P!nk is more established & TTAL has some appeals PRISM doesn't), but she appeals to multiple formats & types of listeners.
So not saying TTAL chart-run = PRISM chartrun, but use this to LEARN.

Death at you guys comparing P!nk to Katy Perry. P!nk didn't have half of Katy's promotion and her first single was a "flop" compared to Try and Just Give Me a Reason, the songs that kept the album on the charts. In the other hand, "Roar" is bigger than all of those songs but it looks like is not enough to make Katy sell her album.

& it has NOTHING to do with rising in the digital era, lol. People have this huge misconception that first week sales used to be bigger and that they've declined along with the industry, which is all a huge lie. First week sales are bigger than ever these days and they only started becoming a "thing" in the late 90s. The first week sales record till like 1998 for females was 300k by Janet, lmao. Look at the highest first week sales lists and they're almost ALL after 2000. In our society right now, everything is instant, we need to have it all immediately. Drake, Taylor, One Direction, Bieber, Gaga, etc all rose in the digital era and they can all sell because they're all superstars. These pop girls are not, and that's why it's funny to see the payola put behind them. The labels need to spend all this money on artists who actually matter.

LMAO "People truly don't care for Rihanna" joke of the day
I don't even know why Rihanna's numbers are being brought up in here when we all know she doesn't even do the same amount of heavy promotion Katy does.

its not that funny in context. i was listening to the radio and they were doing a "katy perry radio" to celebrate the album release, where she talked about the new songs and then did her live performance at the end.

Katy has been gifted 7 #1s on the Hot 100 between then and now.
She's in a slightly different place.

The fact that this will be EVERYWHERE come Friday. I'm sure her sales will rise seeing as how the weekend is coming up with all her stans getting out of school and rushing to one of the local retailers to purchase a copy of a discounted album. I can now see her pushing 300k again.

Not the first page
Yeah, I don't know how you spin this as a positive. She has so much momentum (she's had more hits in between the TD and PRISM release weeks than most artists get in their entire career) and for her not to crack even 300k first week is pitiful.
Yeah, the album might sell decently in the long run if she can continue to release hit singles from the album, but that's not the best business strategy there is. It's better to have guaranteed sales now than have to count on having hit singles and re-releases to get sales later.

That was my point? She's had a lot of success since TD was released and now she's set to have (by far) her best first week sales ever. That's a great achievement for any artist.

Just two questions:
Did any of her albums reached 2xPlatinum without a re-release yet (US)?
Isn't she the most often illegally downloaded singer?
It's FAR from caring if you ask me. But at least her tours can gross decent $$$ that's why he should've never be compared to Katy, imo.
