He has a much greater grip on social media, the internet, culture than ADELE will ever have. There's literally no-one else that comes close. And he does it with everyone of all ethnicities, religion etc.

Hello/Adele was literally the most talked about thing on the internet for a good 3 straight months. Everything she did went viral. Not to mention, that's without having to make obvious meme-able videos/songs.

iTunes receipts are so throaway they don't prove anything. Nevertheless he's barely sold much units outside a handful of countries and OP was talking about his cultural impact which is something limited to North America and UK (per the OP)
