Britney has better catalog sales and better streaming stats with her old hits. I have to go with Britney

Yeah, she's not known in Nigeria or Ghana at all. EYE never heard her music growing up. If you walked on the streets of Accra or Lagos and asked someone who Britney was, they would have no idea. They'd probably think she was some kind of American burger.....
But yes, Janet's music is well-known in West Africa (as well as North, Southern, Central and East- I've lived in all those areas too). Rhythm Nation, If, That's the Way Love Goes, Pleasure Principle, Doesn't Really Matter, I Get Lonely, Together Again, Anytime Anyplace are always played and very much loved. Even Just a Little While and So Excited are well-known hits.

When I was in high school, we would go out to the local villages in Cameroon and learn about the indigenous cultures. When I played Janet they knew the big hits. When I played Britney they all asked who she was. Some of them thought she was Xtina Aguilera.
So based on this information, it's clear Janet has more known hits than Britney.

Janet. She has 2 solo entries on UWC's All Time Tracks chart. Britney only has 1.

Radio never played a Janet song in my country. I live in Russia, But they play Britney even some of her past hits like BTMYH and Overprotected.

Here in the UK, they have similar recurrent airplay stats.
In the last 30 days;
Janet - 511 tracks played (The Great Forever - 110, Together Again - 91, When I Think of You - 65)
Britney - 484 tracks played (Toxic - 145, BOMT - 133, Stronger - 52)

I'd say Britney has more remembered HITS, though.

Janet is well known in the UK, but not even known in the other parts of Europe. If you're known in the USA, then you're known in the UK automatically!

Same. Here in Namibia, the only popular artists I knew here growing up were people like Beyonce and Janet. My Love is Your Love by Whitney was popular here too. It wasn't until I got older and joined this forum that I knew who Britney was. I guess she wasn't that global?

The African stans and their fanfiction. At least name someone who was more popular in Africa than Britney instead of someone way less popular
And Africa is not the only market or even close to the top markets. Britney is bigger in every country in North America, South America, Europe, Australia and Asia. Janet has Africa, and I guess we can throw her Antarctica if that would make you feel better

Britney: Piece of Me - $70.4M
Unbreakable World Tour - $15M
So much for that excuse

Janet easily.
Back when Britney was popular I was still in Cameroon. The song "Hit Me Baby One More Time" only peaked at #89 on the radio charts. So much for being a global hit. That song she did with Will I Am did a little better when I was in Benin. That got up to #65. Other than that nothing by Britney had ever been popular here.
Not all of Janet's hits are remembered, but the biggest ones are still played quite often here. Together Again, WHYDFML, All For You, TTWLG, Love Will Never Do, Feedback, No Sleep, Scream, and a few others.

It's so funny cos Christina is a lot more known and loved in countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Djibouti, Tanzania and Botswana. Genie in a Bottle was one of the top songs of 1999 in multiple African countries and she's been quite successful ever since. Every country I've lived in, they know her songs, sing her songs and play her songs on the radio. My cousins even told me how much everyone was loving Your Body when it was released.
I remember when I went back to Lagos for a little bit and I asked my school teachers if they had ever heard Baby One More Time. They thought it was some kind of ****o. I almost got in trouble.

Can you post some examples of Britney's hits being "more known" in these areas?

If anything, I think it comes down to the age group. Britney's so called hits are more known by people from this generation while much older adults are more familiar with Janet's catalog because they grew up with it. They couldn't care less about Britney and her generic, teen bubble-gum pop music.
