I mean, I liked the 90s too. Like early Mariah, Brandy, Monica, Boys II Men, Aaliyah, Destiny's Child but people always discredit the early 2000s. I think it produced some of the best Urban music too.

I miss the days where every genre had the chance to shine, wether it was R&B, Hip Hop, Pop, Rock etc... that's why the 90s were the best, when there is only one genre reigning is boring and that has been happening in the whole 2000 decade
THIS. Rap is definitely in my top three favorite genres, but I hate virtually every popular rap song released after 2005 because it's so watered-down and you can tell the artists got so desperate for a hit that they'd invent a catchphrase and say it over and over on top of a beat that gets annoying after the first 8 measures (I'm looking at you, MIMS and Soulja Boy).
I think Drake is trying to take hip-hop in a more retro direction, but I have yet to hear one song of his that does that 100% effectively.
I was fine with it at first because there was some good stuff out there, but then it was overkill and a lot of **** became hits just because they were associated with R&B and hip-hop. Thus, when crap like "Laffy Taffy," "Crank That," and "I'm in Love (with a Stripper)" became radio hits it annoyed the **** out of me and I couldn't wait for this "urban domination" to end...
(It's worth mentioning that I'm from the Atlanta area, so a lot of stuff that was HUGE here wasn't that big in other parts of the United States.)
But still, some of the best hip-hop/R&B songs came from this time, like "Hey Ya!" and "Dilemma" and this song that was popular when I first came to the U.S....
Sick and tired of hearing all these people talk about, what's the deal with this pop life and when is it going to fade out. The thing you've got to realize is what they're doing is not a trend. They've got the gift of melody. They're gonna bring it til the end.
It doesn't matter about the cars they drive, or what they wear around their necks. All that matters is that you recognize that it's just about respect. It doesn't matter about the clothes they wear, or where they go and why. All that matters is that you get hyped and they'll do it to you every time.
Do you ever wonder why this music gets you high? It takes you on a ride. Feel it when your body starts to rock. Baby you can't stop and the music's all you got. Come on now. This must be pop!
